Janome makes a good machine for quilters
I've made a lot of quilts on my Janome, and they turned out great. Easy to use and change threads and bobbins, love the easy needle-up/down feature, maintains good tension and even pressure while free quilting. The only caveat I have is Please Do Not ignore the manufacturer's thread recommendations. I did (because hey, Coats and Clark thread was on sale!), and halfway through the quilt the short fibers from the lesser-quality thread clogged up the works and necessitated a trip to the shop to be cleaned and de-gunked. Expensive lesson learned. Stitch Performance Not too many stitches compared to my programmable Bernina, but they all work well Ease of Use One quick walk-through on the things that make every machine a bit different (threading, bobbin-loading, raising and lowering the feed dogs and presser foot) and I was off and sewing Fabric Handling Nice handling even with problem children like silks and brocades Versatility This is a sewing machine, not an embroidery machine. If what you want is sewing, this is it. Design I like the high arm, which makes quilting bulky wads of quilt sandwich much easier Durability Again, read the manual. You can mess this up - like I did
