read full review »I believe I have read every single fashion and beauty magazine geared towards twenty and thirty-somethings and although this is just my opinion... I feel that Jane does not compare to the Glamour's and the Instyles's of the magazine world. I'm not a big article reader. If I want to read something, I will read a book. I buy fashion and beauty magazines for just that...fashion and beauty tips. I like to flip through, get my tips, see the new products ads, and pass the magazine on to my roommate to read.
I used to be a subscriber when Jane was run by its former editor, Jane Pratt. I am not surprised that Jane has stopped publication. After her exit, Jane became just another magazine like all the others. The articles used to be edgy, and articles were not bland. Jane became just like all the other magazines out there, with the same types of columns and articles.
Jane has ceased publication, but it was good while it lasted!
Jane was a magazine known for its edge, but it lost that edge when its founder, Jane Pratt, left. I knew the end was near when Nicole Ritchie was the cover girl, and her startling, obvious weight loss was barely mentioned. Yes, weight is a personal issue, and there are people on all ends of the spectrum when it comes to a healthy weight, but please don't insult your readers by saying you promote a healthy body image and then glorify a young woman who lost weight so rapidly that people were concerned for her health.
