After seeing countless infomercials for the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer, and having a smaller juicer we were not happy with, we were lucky enough to receive one as a wedding gift! There are many things it does better than other home juicers I have used. I can tell by the dryness of the pulp that it does do a better job at extracting the available juice, even from drier vegetables like carrots. It also has a very large opening so you can put whole fruits in like schoolboy-sized apples without chopping, although for larger-sized fruits you will need to halve or quarter. It does work better with a small amount of chopping, for example a long carrot will work better in 3 segments instead of one long one. Overall it is very versatile and I think a larger opening would have caused problems with the fruit & veggies bouncing around too much. It also had no problems efficiently extracting juice from softer fruits like grapes and oranges, whereas other juicers I have used had a lot of waste with these.
It is not quite as easy to clean as the commercials would lead you to believe as it does require a bit of scrubbing around the screen to get all the pulp out, but to be honest it is still better than the other juicers on the market. It comes apart easily and all parts are dishwasher-safe. The fact is, juicing is inherently messy and you are not going to find a juicer that cleans itself. Overall the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer is a great value for the money since it can handle than other home use juicers. It may seem a little pricey, but to get a better product you would have to step up into a small commercial-grade juicer for a couple hundred dollars more.
