J.K. Rowling - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Review Summary

The second installment of J.K. Rowling's wildly popular fantasy series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secretsfinds Harry about to begin his second year at Hogwarts school for the magically inclined. Evil forces are converging to lend a malevolent tone to this book. We also are introduced to Dobby, the house elf. Its not enough our young hero has to deal with Draco Malfoy, but a monster has been unleashed at the school and it is up to Potter to find the Slytherin heir who opened the Chamber of Secrets. One reviewer notes, "The second installment in the Harry Potter series is quite a bit darker than the first, and I think it's brilliant" Rowling maintains the elements of fantasy and whimsy while adding a darker sub-text. The story doesn't suffer however, "As usual excellent character development and creative story lines leads the reader on a grand parade"

The Case

When I finally got around to starting the Harry Potter series, I devoured book one. It was with great anticipation that I moved on to book two. I'm happy to report that I enjoyed it quite as much as the first! Though it doesn't tie in with the following books as much as I hoped it would,

Our second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry finds us in a race to save students from an evil and unknown entity that is attacking students.

This book is quite interesting, it is very entertaining for all ages, however for those of us who are a bit older and wiser there are parallels drawn in regards to racism and doing the right thing when no one is looking.  This book flows really well, it's a bit wordy at some parts but that's the genius of JK Rowling she spins a plot unlike any other author that I have read.

Year two at Hogwarts begins like any other year, there are new...

The second enstallment of Harry Potter aids new characters, not so well rounded as our hero and his friends.  These are the dark characters of Lucius Malfoy and some of his family and friends.  It also itroduces the reader to Dobby a fresh, new and vital character.  Dobby brings life into a story that at first seems to stahl.

Ms. Rowlings does seem to decide on a set course however and by the middle of the book the story is not so confusing.  She leads us through paths of horror and susspense, laughter and tears.

As usuall excellent character development and creative story lines leads the reader...

Year two for Harry Potter is destined to be very busy and dangerous. Dobby, the house elf to the Malfoys, tries his very hardest to keep Harry away this year, because he knows what is in store. After several attempts to keep him away, Harry still ends up at Hogwarts, where terrible things are about to happen. An admiring Ginny becomes the unwitting puppet of Tom Riddle and his diary. A new, self involved professor, Gilderoy Lockheart and a new house ghost, Moaning Myrtle, make things a little more interesting. Someone or something starts targeting the students into stone, and it all seems... review »

I totally agree with Nicole from TX!.... When I finally got around to starting the Harry Potter series, I devoured book one. It was with great anticipation that I moved on to book two. I'm happy to report that I enjoyed it quite as much as the first! Though it doesn't tie in with the following books as much as I hoped it would, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is definitely worthy of its place in the Potter series!   I read them all that were out at the time and eagerally awaited the next ones...they are great for adults and kids...well written and that is all there is to it !!!!!

When I first heard about movies being better than a book as a child I was excited... no more reading! However when you get older and you actually read for fun its quite amazing. This book takes you to a whole new place. You can feel their excitement when Harry and pals discover a new clue. I like especially when they think someone is "suspect" and all the clues lead to this person but then the twist, it wasn't them. This suspect now becomes an ally.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second book in the Harry Potter series, is a delightful story that is great to read alone or with a child.  Aside from some boring review of the previous book, the story moves along at a quick, exciting pace as the mystery of the Chamber of Secrets unfolds.  New charachters are introduced, further enhancing the magical world of Hogwatrts.

This was an amazing 2nd year of Harry Potter. It shows more about their magical world and the indtroduction of more magical creatures(elf, phoenix). this also gives the first picture of the early life of Voldemort. the book gets much more dangerous in the final than the last one. this book also introduces more characters and brings the older characters into limelight. Naturally a MUST READ.

J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is a masterpiece. The plot and diction are written in a way that both children and adults can enjoy and every seemingly insignificant detail has importance to the story. She has created an imaginary world that is completely believable and so unbelievably intricate it may as well be real.

Thank you again Rawling. Again, I couldn't put the book down. I love Harry, Ron, and Hermoine. My daughter and I just can't get enough. I love the Weasleys. The Chamber of Secrets is scary. I don't like snakes. I just love Harry's continued desire to solve a mystery and be the hero. He is great. A must read

Anything Harry Potter is going to be awesoe. This book was a classic beginning to every other book and was great. As a parent you should read these to your kids and you'lll both like them. They are pretty inexpensive now whcih is nice. With the other books being published now you can get them all for a nice low amount.

I just love all of the Harry Potter books. The best part was being able to share the experience of reading with my two children and my best friend. This was not my favorite of the series but since it was one of the first ones it was still exciting. The new characters are always a plus.
