Hello, my name is Garvin, and I'm a full time student at Ivy Tech Community Collage, Southwest campus (Evansville). I'm a 46yr old returning to school, with a full time job. I'm not in the nursing program yet but; I'm taking the prerequisite classes. The staff at Ivy Tech are VERY helpful, they will take the time to help you get the information you need to succeed!!!! The school has a boatload of student success seminars, stress management, time management, test taking skills, study skills, how to wright a paper, note taking skills, tutoring, job interviewing skills, resume writing, job placement, help in finding residents,(no on campus housing) fitness and wellness center,(gym) and a lot more. All FREE of charge. The school always has some sort of student activity going on. (DISCLAIMER; I go to school at night with a 40hr week day job. Most all student services are during day, I have to take off work to use most of the free services.)
I have a slight physical disability, when a professor noticed it she recommended that I go to the Disabled Student Services and talk to them about it. The D.S.S. director had me get a letter from my doctor to verify my disability. As soon as I brought in the letter from my doctor, she was "white on rice". The first thing she did was to make sure my disability didn't keep me from getting a Nursing license, then she came up with a bunch of handicap access accommodations specific to my needs. She came up with things to help me succeed that I had never thought of.
One thing that surprised me about Ivy Tech's two year nursing program, is that all the nursing credits transfer to U.S.I., if you are wanting to get your Bachelors degree. When you transfer your Associates degree from Ivy Tech to U.S.I. you can get your Bachelors in one year. Bachelor degree in nursing: Ivy Tech U.S.I. three years., U.S.I only four years. Need I say any more?
I would recommend Ivy Tech Community Collage to anyone, especially my children.
