I know for a fact that this movie is what one might call a "tradition movie". You watch it every year during a certain time and it stays with you. Reason being, down here in Mobile, AL, we would watch the Thanksgiving Parades in the a.m. and right after that, they would show without fail "It's A Wonderful Life" to start off the holiday season right. Some years ago, they stopped it and had the dog show instead; I know of one coworker who told me that her grandmother called the local station and complalined about it too. If she wanted some company, I would have put in my two cents too. You just cannot mess with tradition. Anyway, to get with the movie itself, as I mentioned earlier, this movie is a classic, been around for years and unless the earth stops moving, it ain't going out of style no time soon. James Stewart plays this guy that has a good life. He has some bad breaks, but he makes a good life as a banker(inherited from father), a loving wife and kids; good uncle who is in the business with him; But of course, youre gonna have bad, and he has it in the form of Mr Potter, the other banker in town who isnt afraid to be a straight up miser if need be(played expertly by Lionel Barrymore). Anyhow, Stewart's uncle(played by Thomas Mitchell) upon making the deposit of the banks daily take, gets it pickpocketed by Potter, then try to make stuff bad for him and down poor Stewart goes down the pool of self pity and regret and a few drinks, making him wish he was never born; Of course, he get a little help to show how life would be if he wasnt born.and stuff is pretty grim. That he gets with the help of the angel Clarence(played with some whimsy by Henry Travers). by the time he is shown the error of his ways, he comes out of the experience with a whole new attitude; and although that in and of itself is a blessing, But the ultimate blessing comes at the end and for those who haven't seen this film, I wont spoil it. But you'll leave with a warm fuzzy feeling inside. If you want my advice, get this movie and watch it around the holiday season. Better yet, watch it when you need to feel a little better about yourself, about life and get that warm feeling inside.keep a hankie or kleenex handy too.
