Buyer Beware!

I had heard about this book coming out on my local country station.  I thought it would be nice to get some insight into what it's like to be the wife of a country music superstar and learn how she coped during their seperation.  I could not have been more disappointed by what I read.

This book is about Denise Jackson and her life since she met Alan Jackson when she was 16.  She does covers the down and out times before Alan made it big but only briefly.  She also talks about life today but only from a distance.  A lot of the book focuses on scripture and how she relates various scripture passages to her life today.  Included are several pictures on her and Alan as children, pictures from their personal album today and some nice pictures of their 3 girls.

Within the first few pages I had lost interest.  I did finish the book hoping it would get better, but no luck.  For most of the book Mrs. Jackson talked about her faith and how to pray and actually included prayers from a prayer journal of a good friend of hers.  Her faith is obviously important to her and I'm OK with that, but I think if she wanted to write about her faith then she should have done a different sort of book.  I was hoping to read about what caused the brief seperation in their marriage and what her and Alan each took away from it BESIDES a renewed faith in Jesus.  I wasn't looking for juicy gossip or any of that just thoughts and feelings outside of the religousness that I found.  She doesn't go into much detail on anything to personal.  I guess if you're not comfortable sharing personal then don't write a book about your life as the wife of someone famous.  In her defense, she did talk a little bit about her being needy etc. and what that had to do with the seperation.  However, she then went right back into how she should have never gone away from God.

A few times I thought she'd finally found her rhythm especially when she was dealing with her fathers death, but then she just I felt abruptly droped the topic and turned again to quoting a few Bible verses and sharing a Bible parable.

If your looking for a quick read and don't mind having a lot of scripture entwined with the story then you just may enjoy this book.  If your looking for honest feelings about a very difficult time in their marriage, then don't bother buying this book because you won't find it here.

There ya go ;) Great review! Too bad some Authors tend to focus on a point but fail to tell the rest of the story with the same ZEST that they use on the little stuff. If they would only balance the story it would make a more enjoyable read. ;) Ron

You're very welcome and personal feelings can enhance a review just let your gut feelings guide you. We were all new at one point so just put that aside and you will do just fine. I will go back and read it again. We are glad you're here so just relax and everything will turn out just fine. ;) Ron

Hi Ron, I'm knew to this whole "reviewing" thing. I did take your advice and added a few new paragrahs that summerize what the book was about. I tried to leave out my personal feelings from them. Thanks for the advice to make changes. I'll try to keep your question in mind when I do reviews. Deevamom511

For those that don't know who the book is about how are they supposed to know? Remember that people are depending on you to tell them who or what the book is about. You can edit the review by clicking the link at the top or this review. Ron
