To the Point

At one of the campgrounds in which we stayed there was a fitness room. Actually we hit three campgrounds with fitness rooms this summer. One had a set of 1-pound wrist weights by Iron Wear.

A Closer View

The exact name that Ironwear calls these weights is Wrist Irons in royal blue. This color is from last year so they are on sale at http://www.ironwearfitness.com/hand-weights.html.

Why use these you may ask? I'll tell you what I don't advocate. I don't suggest that you walk with weights on your wrists or ankles. However at only 1-pound each these are so light that if you have been doing resistance training I wouldn't have a problem as long as the surface is not uneven. When you get any heavier I believe they can put you off balance. Any pros you may see by using them I feel outweigh the negatives.

Having said that Ironwear's Wrist Irons certainly have a place in your home. For $14.00 you can put them on your wrists while you do household chores essentially working out while vacuuming.

When put around your ankles you can work you legs whether by virtue of actually setting aside ten minutes or as I said above cleaning the house while wearing them. If you want to do some leg exercises these make doing so very easy. Just put them around your ankles and lie down on your side. Do traditional leg lifts. You'll have some resistance which will make your workout much better. I like to put them around my ankles and while standing move let's say my right leg out to the side twelve times working my outer thigh muscles (abductors). I then cross that right leg over my left leg working my inner thigh muscles (adductors). I brink my leg back working my hamstring and butt. You'd be surprised how just a little bit of weight makes a difference.

I found these Wrist Irons to be flexible and easy to wrap around my wrist. The strap stretches and was held in place with Velcro. My wrist is small - a size 7- and I was able to adjust the Iron Wrists to fit me just fine.
