As a small business owner, I've got no choice but to use Quickbooks for my accounting application. It's not the greatest thing in the world, but my accountant also uses it, so Quickbooks is essential in sharing my company's information with him. Trouble is, I was a Windows guy when I purchased and started using Quickbooks. Since becoming a Mac user, the only solution has been to use my existing Quickbooks for Windows inside Parallels or Boot Camp. I try to avoid using Windows as much as possible, so the other day, I decided to bite the bullet and plunk down the $200 for the Mac version.
I was definitely disappointed. They've tried to take the functionality of the Windows version and jam it into a Mac-like interface. The result is clunky and rather cumbersome. It also lacks some key features (or at least, I couldn't find them) from the Windows version, the most important for me being manual payroll (we only have two employees, not worth the $25-30 per month for a payroll service). It also crashed more than few times in the two-day period I stuck with it.
To their credit, returning the product was quite easy. Just a call to their 800-number, and 5 minutes later, I had my money back.
My advice if you're considering the same move as me. Just don't. Stick with Quickbooks for Windows and Parallels instead.
