Into The Wild is a film based on the book and true-life story of Christopher McCandless, a young college graduate who gives up all of his possessions and takes an alternate route in discovering the joys that life has to offer. Sounds pretty good, huh? Yep, that's what I thought, which is why...

Most HelpfulInto the Wild is a thought provoking movie based on a true story about a 22 year old college grad who goes to the extreme to find himself. It tells of his many journeys living on the road, meeting interesting people and experiencing nature in its most raw form. The outdoor scenery is breath taking.
The book by the same name was written by Jon Krakauer who also wrote Into Thin Air (another based on a true story book about Mt Everst climbers). The film was written and directed by Sean Penn. Emile Hirsch played the lead part of Chistopher McCandless. The cast, studded with award winners...
review »Emile Hirsch gives an amazing performance in "Into The Wild" that takes his character from the privileged life of upper middle class Christopher McCandless to the hitchhiking, nearly penniless, adventure-seeking Alexander Supertramp, the name he takes on when he ditches his old life and refuses to be found by his family.
While it may seem he's just a whiney, priviledged kid, rebelling against mom and dad, in this case it's much more than that. He's a young man who comes to the realization that the precscribed plan laid out for him since and BY his birth has left him no room to discover himself...
review »I read the book, written in 1992 by a journalist for Outdoor magazine shortly after hearing about the movie. Reading the book first made the experience of watching the movie that much more personal. Chris was more than a character in a movie.......he was more than a sensational news story.......he touched your heart, your soul, and had you asking some of the same questions he had been searching for answers to.
I began reading the book with preset moral standards and judgements.....what kind of fruitcake does this kind of thing? By hte end of the book it broke my heart to know how alone he really...
review »Normally i'm only a fan of comedies. Last night my best friend told me about this movie she had recorded that is based on a true story of a man living around the same area i'm from. I couldn't keep my eyes off of the television. The beauty of not only the scenery but this young man's blatant happiness with absolutely nothing other than nature is amazing. Seeing what he actually went through and knowing that his sister is the one who collected all of his notes over the years he was nomadic and published it makes me want to tear up. The acting in the movie is the best i've seen in a long...
review »I read Krauker's book a few years ago while I was travelling. The book affected me immensely then. I loved the book so much that I told others to read it. It is one of the few books that I have told people to read. Well, when I heard the ad for the movie on the radio, I was ecstatic. I had no idea that this book was coming to the big screen.
Well, like the book, the movie is really inspirational. It makes me want to forget the mundane problems that I may have. I would love to do some more travelling and find more about myself. However, I am not as adventurous or as stubborn...
review »This is a beautiful film. Emile Hirsche is amazing as are all the supporting cast. It's hard not to be touched or affected by it by the end. Sean Penn does a good job of revealing the story and all the facts - I am impressed by the family for allowing them to be shown in a "warts and all" kind of light. The soundtrack is wonderful and the cinematography is impressive.
