IUPU-I offers the prestige of having a degree from a good university, and also allows you to pick and choose which courses you can ease into.
I started off my college career at Purdue University - Main campus. But the social scene really cut into the necessary studying required for even the "easy" elective courses. I soon learned that if I took summer school classes at IUPU-I for the non-mandatory classes (English, lower level math, business courses), I would be taking IU versions of the courses which were simpler.
Soon, however, the social scene really cut into my education. So, I ended up moving back home and took classes at IUPU-I. My degree says that I graduated from Purdue University, and on my resume, I list my college as Purdue Univ - Indianapolis. My transcript is a Purdue transcript. So, I have the prestige of graduating from Purdue.
There are a good mix of students. My major was applied mathematics, and I was the only white female in most of my classes. In fact there weren't that many white students in my classes. I remember one of my study groups consisted of students from Malaysia, Chile, France, Sri Lanka, Peru, and Samoa. It was fun being the only American, and being from Indianapolis, I knew several places we could go as a group to get to know each other better.
Most of the students, though are non-traditional students. A lot of returning for degrees, or getting additional degrees, or just taking classes for fun. Even the foreign students have had more than one gap year before going to school.
