The buzz around Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has been huge. Good things, bad things, all sorts of things. A lot of people were saying Harrison Ford is too old to still be as good as he was in the former three Indiana Jones movies. Well, I just got back from watching the very first showing and I'll say this: It's worthy of the Indiana Jones name.

Plot: When Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones is kidnapped by the Russian KGB, he is forced to uncover a coveted artifact on a remote Military base. After handing the artifact to the KGB, he is thrust into another adventure to try and recover the artifact and explore its origin.

This movie was classic Indiana Jones all over again. Its incredible how much it felt like the other 3. Harrison Ford was by no means too old for this, and performed incredibly well. Cate Blanchett played Russian KGB Agent Splako, and I must say she did a great job. The real surprise for me was how much I enjoyed Shia LeBeouf. I've never really liked his acting, or his acting style. His role in Transformers was really good though and showed that he might really have acting talent. In this movie though, he shows how much his acting has improved and he does a fantastic job. He's quickly becoming a true acting great.

The special effects in this movie were amazing but, with Lucas Arts at the helm, I pretty much expected that. The dialog was snappy and you'll find the classic Indiana Jones puns thrown in for good measure. The directing was top notch due to Steven Spielberg being the director. He knew exactly what to do to make it feel like a Jones movie. I was taken back by how good the score (music) was too. It flowed well and made every part feel as it should.

The only problem with this movie is that its an 80's movie in a new era. By that, I mean that there's some cheesy puns and the story is really far fetched. But, if you look at the other three movies, none of them seem very realistic. I mean Voodoo priests? The Ark of the Covenant? The Holy Grail? Far fetched, yeah but, they make for a great story and a great adventure.

If you've enjoyed any of the Indiana Jones movies, I highly suggest seeing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Even if you're just looking for a good adventure, check this one out. Even though this movie wasn't perfect, it was worth the money. This is one of the movies everybody will be talking about for months to come.

The cheese is part of the charm! Some of the lines were obviously written by Lucas, who has proven over and over that, as a script writer, he's a great producer! I loved this movie. Nice job!

I hear ya. People focus so much on the realism that they forget its a movie. An Indiana Jones movie.

Okay, you made me want to see it. Trying to schedule now!

Good review. The one thing I wonder about when I read others' reviews about Indiana Jones movies is: "Why all the fuss about realism in this series?" Sure, the franchise isn't as fantasy-based as Lucas' other famous series that mimics the serials of the 1930s and '40s, but I think it's the over-the-top derring-do and unbelievable situations that are the heart of the Indy (and Star Wars) films.

You are back!!! (at least in front instead of behind-the-scenes) Excellent review as always. I am really excited to see this movie. I'm becoming a huge fan of Shia LeBeouf as well, but probably for very different reasons than you. Hehe :)
