Whether you are unemployed, gainfully employed, or out just kicking tires....the seemingly endless Internet options for seeking out new career opportunities could be a bit overwhelming.
Recently, I discovered a search engine that has made my life a little bit easier. Granted, I am using this tool for a slightly different purpose (market research and business development) I still believe that this website can be very helpful to both the casual and active job seeker.
The idea behind Indeed.com is simple -- "One Search. All jobs." This tool allows you to plug in a quick search for, say, all Staff Accountant positions in Chicago, IL. The search engine then pulls all postings from all of the mainstream job boards (CareerBuilder, Monster, HotJobs, etc.) as well as some of the less popular sites. Most importantly, it also pulls from actual employer websites who may not also post their job listings on third-party sites.
While the basic two-field search engine will provide plenty of results, you can also use the advanced search to provide a more targeted list. As an executive recruiter ("headhunter") by trade, I personally use this tool to determine which companies are hiring for certain positions and then use that list to plan my business development calls.
The only negatives...sometimes the search results can be a bit spotty, e.g., duplicate listings, curious ommissions, etc. and the option "Exclude Staffing Agencies" doesn't work that well.
