In Death (Series Books) Review Summary

If you like Nora Roberts but want something without all the romance, try the In Death series of futuristic detective novels. Roberts is also the author, writing under the pseudonym J.D. Robb. Starting with Naked in Death in 1995, this series is some 30+ novels in, featuring the husband and wife detective team Eve and Dallas Roarke. Described by some as science fiction but really just cop stories set in the future (2050), the difference between In Death and other Roberts novels is these are not really romance stories but are "real, clever, edgy & have a slight hint of romance, but a definite law & order feel to it.". The characters are eclectic, "There are enough cops, lawyers, doctors, pop stars, prostitutes, dealers, fashion designers to satisfy anyone's taste." and the mysteries engrossing, although "some of the plots a bit predictable but have read the series regardless because of the engaging characters.". All of our reviewers recommend the In Deathseries of books.

In my opinion, the J.D. Robb stories (...In Death) about Eve & hubby are at the Top of my list. I have only 2 authors I have more books from who previously were my favorites ( but only because they wrote more.. :)
Eve is a very realistic character who is so entertaining that it wouldn't even matter if her husband was a bore....and THAT is definitely NOT true. He is charming, wealthy, smart, mysterious and sexy!!
The stories are all set in the future while being believable and not sci-fiish...I hate Sci-fi.....about 50 years ahead with a glimpse into crime & drama as we can forsee it.
Always engaging...

My mother originally got me to try this series. After reading my first book I was hooked and have been systemattically reading them ever since. There are so many books in this series that it seems as though it will never end and I love it. Every single book is awesome and I have no complaints about them. Also they are so well written that you do not have to read them in order and can read the out of order and still understand everything. Also the way she brings together romance, mystery, crime, and futuristic things is great. This series is so addictive.

When Nora Roberts writes as J.D. Robb, she gives something truly special to her readers.

They are billed as sci-fi in some stores but really only in setting (2050s) and some technical devices (stunners, Auto Chefs, flying cars, supercomputers). The rest is just so character-driven that they could occur anywhere.

True, some books in the series are more predictable than others. Also, some are definitely more gruesome and relentless. However, the characters (especially the central core of Dallas, Roarke, Peabody, and Mavis) are complex, loveable, and real. You care about what happens to them. There...

I have been reading Nora Roberts for about 5 years. I have enjoyed every book of hers that I have read. I recently decided to check out her books written under the pen name J D Robb. I have never found a series of books to be so involving. The minute you pick up one of her "in Death" books you are in for a non-stop thrill ride. The first book in the series is "Naked in Death" I was unable to put it down. "Naked in Death" is about a futuristic cop named Eve Dallas. In this first book you learn about what makes her a tough cop and strong voice for the dead. You also see the initial meeting of her...

Not so futuristic that it's unbelievable (with a few exceptions). Roberts (writing as J.D. Robb) pulls you in quickly with her quirky characters. I found some of the plots a bit predictable but have read the series regardless because of the engaging characters.  You cannot help but want to find out what happens next with them. Eve with her disturbing past, illogical fear of children and solid view of right and wrong captured and held my attention immediately. And Roarke with his shady background, unwaving loyalty and appreciation for the "gray" area is a perfect match.

I personally feel...

I'm new to this as this is my first review.  I have loved books for as long as I could read.  If it's great, I'll reread a book many times.  I first found the In Death Series as an accident in a grouping of four short stories.  This is the one where Roark takes Dallas to the Olympus Resort for the cop conference.  I fell in love with the characters and went to get more.  YEAH for our local libraies.  After reading 3 more I went onlie and got the whole list of books in order of release.  It was then that I discovered the author was Nora Roberts. I never really cared for her books before. ... review »

Eve is a police officer who ends up having to investigate a string of murdered prostitutes. Along the way she falls for one the murder suspects. He's Irish, secretive, sexy, and she can't see any way to keep from being drawn to him. Her past keeps a wall between the two of them, but he falls to the wayside as the thruth about the murders unravels.

Nora Roberts (writing as J.D. Robb) is a great author! If you like mystery, suspense, romance, and a book to keep you on the edge of your comphy reading chair, I definately recommend any of the In Death series. Naked in Death was the first book I'd ever...

Every person I have ever recommended this series to has loved it. Eve and Roarke, the main characters, become a part of you after just the first book. You cry when bad things happen to them, laugh at their funny moments, and dream about recreating their connection in your own life. The books are clever, engaging, well written, fast paced, and more! They are set in the future (though not an unrealistic future which would be a turn off) and that makes them even more interesting. JD Robb is a pseudonym for Nora Roberts.

J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts) does it again!  Lt. Eve Dallas and her hottie hubbie Roarke get yet another murderer.  The whole series follows a formula that is a little predictable, but really works.  Dallas catches a case, Roarke ends up helping in some way, the two fight then make up with hot sex and catch the killer.  What I like about the In Death series is that it's not focused around the romance, but around the murder case with a little romance and lots of humor thrown in.

OMG I just love J.D. Robb's books (aka Nora Roberts). The "In Death" series is just page turning action, drama, suspense, humor and love the Irish they got going on in the books. I would just LOVE to see one of these books turn into a movie. I've read everyone of them so far except one (can't seem to find it). I can't wait until the next one and I've reread each one at least 2 times. They are one of my favorite series! Go to your local library and try one out you won't regret it!

Although the crimes are often brutal, the affection the characters have for one another make these a cut above other series. The futuristic touches are a nice bonus, but the real pleasure comes from watching the characters grow from book to book. The plots are well-crafted and there are surprises in nearly everyone. It is especially gratifying to introduce someone to this series. I do wish she would write more/ more quickly in this series.

Nora Roberts aka J.D. Robb's (...In Death) Series is a must read for any lover of fiction.  Each book is a page turner.  I recently ran out of books to read so I re-read one of her previous novels.  Despite the fasct that I knew what was going to happen and how it would end I still could not put it down.  She is one of my top authors. Whenever I see one of her books due out I add it to my reading list immediately.

Anything written by JD Robb/Nora Roberts is IMHO a fantastic book to read. The In Death Books are gripping suspense books with characters you grow to love as the series grows. I think you should give them a chance and fall in love With Eve Dallas. The mysteries are fast paced and hold you from page one. Even when you are positive who done the dirty deeds there is almost always a twist you couldn't expect.

Everytime a new "In Death" book comes out I get giddy and buy it that day if possible.  The main character Eve is a strong woman who goes after what she wants.  She is quirky and has many personal issues, but that doesn't get in her way.  You learn a little more about each character with each book.  The "In Death" series is the only series I make a point of reading.

Those who shun reading romance novels for their trite plotlines and shallow characters should take a second look at the In Death series by Nora Roberts/JD Robb. While some of the romantic scenes are a little cheesy, they are still captivating and endearing. The plotlines include lots of twists and turns and are totally entertaining. Take a chance with this series, and you won't be disappointed!
