My mother originally got me to try this series. After reading my first book I was hooked and have been systemattically reading them ever since. There are so many books in this series that it seems as though it will never end and I love it. Every single book is awesome and I have no complaints about them. Also they are so well written that you do not have to read them in order and can read the out of order and still understand everything. Also the way she brings together romance, mystery, crime, and futuristic things is great. This series is so addictive.
When Nora Roberts writes as J.D. Robb, she gives something truly special to her readers.
They are billed as sci-fi in some stores but really only in setting (2050s) and some technical devices (stunners, Auto Chefs, flying cars, supercomputers). The rest is just so character-driven that they could occur anywhere.
True, some books in the series are more predictable than others. Also, some are definitely more gruesome and relentless. However, the characters (especially the central core of Dallas, Roarke, Peabody, and Mavis) are complex, loveable, and real. You care about what happens to them. There...
review »I have been reading Nora Roberts for about 5 years. I have enjoyed every book of hers that I have read. I recently decided to check out her books written under the pen name J D Robb. I have never found a series of books to be so involving. The minute you pick up one of her "in Death" books you are in for a non-stop thrill ride. The first book in the series is "Naked in Death" I was unable to put it down. "Naked in Death" is about a futuristic cop named Eve Dallas. In this first book you learn about what makes her a tough cop and strong voice for the dead. You also see the initial meeting of her...
review »Not so futuristic that it's unbelievable (with a few exceptions). Roberts (writing as J.D. Robb) pulls you in quickly with her quirky characters. I found some of the plots a bit predictable but have read the series regardless because of the engaging characters. You cannot help but want to find out what happens next with them. Eve with her disturbing past, illogical fear of children and solid view of right and wrong captured and held my attention immediately. And Roarke with his shady background, unwaving loyalty and appreciation for the "gray" area is a perfect match.
I personally feel...
review »Anything written by JD Robb/Nora Roberts is IMHO a fantastic book to read. The In Death Books are gripping suspense books with characters you grow to love as the series grows. I think you should give them a chance and fall in love With Eve Dallas. The mysteries are fast paced and hold you from page one. Even when you are positive who done the dirty deeds there is almost always a twist you couldn't expect.
