Ihave planted impatiens for years in shady areas around the house, including the north side of the garage and under the overhang in front of the house. They provide great color and with a little fertilizer (like Miracle Grow) have provided mounds of color. The ones in front of the house get very little rain, so usually have to be watered every other day. The ones on the north side of the garage will get by with watering about once a week. They are sensitive to frost in the fall, but next to the house they are usually protected.
