Idea Village Point N Paint —

The Point N Paint claims that you can paint a whole room in less than an hour as this applicator holds more paints, covers more space, and glides on easy saving you time and energy. I was very excited to give it a try. Especially since they claim you do not need to tape since the mini applicator is perfect for trim and baseboards.

I was planning to use the product to add some color to a few accent walls in my apartment. While at Target, I convinced my husband that it was worth the 19.99 they were selling it for.

At first glance the product looked promising. Once we began painting we noticed the upward motion seemed to glide fairly smoothly but when you try to reverse you get a ton of drag. The website shows the host painting forward, backward, and sideways effortlessly and evenly applying paint. In reality once you start going backwards it seems like you begin to take more paint off the wall then actually put on. Also, the pad seemed to absorb a bunch of the pain as opposed to putting it on the wall. It seemed like i was "dipping" the pad as often if not sooner than I would a roller.

The advertising also promises no brush strokes, however after two coats I could still see the streaks. The pad was certainly not applying the paint evenly. In many instances the pad actually skipped as I was trying to paint as the pad became dry in one stroke. To counterbalance that I tried to build up more and more paint into the pad thinking that i was not getting enough on there. I quickly learned this was not the answer as this led to paint drips and splatter just the same as if I had used a roller.

The mini applicator also did not live up to the promise of not needing to tape off. As soon as you get a bit too much paint on the pad it bubbles over the side the pad the edger is at that point useless.

Lastly, we used a pole to extend the height of the applicator to reach the ceiling edge. This was a huge mistake as the cheap plastic used for the pivot fell apart letting the applicator drop to the floor. Luckily it fell on an area covered by plastic. We tried it again with the same results. The plastic is not strong enough to hold against even a light amount of pressure.  After 2+ hours struggling with the point in paint we finally threw in the towel. We bought a couple of rollers and started over.

I give the point n paint a C. It was not faster or more effective then using a roller and trim brush. I am not sure what I expected from as seen on TV products except for it to work as described.  We packed both point n paint back into the box and put away, however I don't think we'll be using it again.
