Ice Road Truckers Review Summary

Our reviewers are calling The History Channel's Ice Road Truckers "absolutely the most heart-stopping show around".  The show follows the lives of drivers working in the Northwest Territories in below zero weather on icy roads.  Reviewers are fascinated by the work these men do, and also happy because there is "finally a reality show without the catfights and girl drama."  This does not mean that girls cannot enjoy it, as many of our female reviewers are addicted to Ice Road Truckers.  The show does have it's critics, however, who say Ice Road Truckers doesn't even belong on the History Channel.  That isn't stopping most people from tuning in though!  "This show had real people, real emotions, real danger, and a lot of real excitement." Also check out Battle 360 on the History Channel.

Where did I find this show?
Well, we have a DVR and when I brought up the list of things I had taped I saw this show on there called Ice Road Truckers. Obviously my husband taped it, and I could not figure out what the heck that could be... The next day I asked him what it was. He said that it was a show about truckers that work up in the Northwest Territories in below zero weather. They deliver supplies to the diamond mines up there. The unique thing about this show is that the only way to get the supplies to the mines is to wait until the lakes freeze up and DRIVE ON THEM!!!- and only for an 8-10...

I don't know any truckers, nor do I have any interest in long-haul trucking, so imagine my surprise when I got hooked on The History Channel's Ice Road Truckers a couple of years ago.  I watched it once on a lark because there was nothing else on that summer night and that was all it took to suck me in.  I've just started watching the third season and I still love it!

Ice Road Truckers follows the drivers who haul huge and super-heavy loads to diamond mines and oil fields in Northern Canada and Alaska.  These tractor trailers are driving over frozen seas aka "ice roads".  They are literally...

Ready to sit on the edge of your seat? This show is totally amazing and scarey. These men that drive on the ice roads are crazy. Yes, the money is great, but WOW. A must see show for anyone that thinks he/she is a dare-devil. These men are amazing and crazy. Great show.

OMG I was totally addicted!! What killed me is i missed most of the season, I was able to catch a few shows, and now i cannot wait till next season.  It was on the edge of my seat excitment.  What a Job! I could not even imagine what it would be like driving over frozen water like that in a huge rig...hell not even a car!  Here in NH we have fishing derbys on the states biggest lake, and i tell you it is loaded with cars, trucks, snow mobiels, bob houses, just tons of stuff, and little oh me stays on the edge.  Maybe it goes back to childhood when a friend walking accross the frozen river and...

I thought I would never like this in a million years, despite my reality tv "addiction". However, I was pleasantly surprised when I couldn't stop watching! This show is filled with so much suspense. You are able to "choose sides" between the characters and cheer for your favorites. The contestants are unique to reality tv and seem far more "real" than most other reality shows.  This adds to the suspense of the race. The show moves quickly and always leaves you hanging. There were many times that I was nervous for the truckers and didn't know if they would be able to physically complete their run... review »

I did drive truck for a while & this show proves that there are people out there who will do anything for a dollar at the same time for proving that they are not always out for themselves. The first show I watched they had to help a trucker before he either froze or his truck went in the lake. I was on the edge of my seat YELLING at the tv to do something. I live alone so I thnk my neighbors thought I must have gone crazy yelling the way I was. I can't wait to get it on DVD. I think it is a must for all so no one will look at truckers the same way again. America needs ALL KINDS of truckers to make... review »

This movie is about how truck drivers take huge risks to deliver supplies across roads on large frozen bodies of water to areas in the Northwest Territories in Canada. The dangers, feelings, attitudes and accomplishnents involved is truely amazing. Battling awful below 'o' freezing temperatures. These are real life people not actors driving to earn a years wages in just a few months. You will be at the edge of your seat watching. I highly recommend seeing or buying these movies.

My brother-in-law recommended this show to me. I gave it a try and was hooked after one episode (and I entered a few episodes into season 1). I couldn't help but root for certain characters.... poor Drew and his broken down truck problems and poor Rick freezing his toes every time he went out on a run. The lure of money is what gets these guys going for the Dash for the Cash. Suspense every episode as you wonder if anyone is going through the ice. I can't wait for season 2!

Another offering on the History Channel that we're hard pressed to figure out just what it has to do with History.   I watched several episodes but really could not bring myself to care whether or not these guys feel throught the ice.  IMHO, it's just another example of the History Channel bringing in a bunch of shows that should really be on Discovery.  But at least it has more to do with History than all the UFO crap they keep throwing up.

Whether you're a fan of trucking or not, this show has you on the edge of your seat.  My dad is a trucker and he LOVES it.  My friends want nothing to do with trucking and they love it too!  It's exciting to see the ice crack under their wheels.  The truckers become stranded in sub zero weather and worry about freezing to death, but I bet it's nice and warm in the truck with the film crew....

I really enjoyed this series. Unlike most of the reality "Garbage" thats on, this show had real people, real emotions, real danger, and a lot of real excitement. I can't wait for next season, and I am looking forward to AX Men, the History channels new series on Northwest loggers. Thanks, HC, for keeping it real.

My husband and I caught the first show in an all day marathon and we were hooked. It was the weekend and we sat and watched every show. We couldn't believe that people actually risked their lives driving the ice roads. It makes for great edge of your seat tv. We can't wait for the next season.
