Ice Road Truckers —

I don't know any truckers, nor do I have any interest in long-haul trucking, so imagine my surprise when I got hooked on The History Channel's Ice Road Truckers a couple of years ago.  I watched it once on a lark because there was nothing else on that summer night and that was all it took to suck me in.  I've just started watching the third season and I still love it!

Ice Road Truckers follows the drivers who haul huge and super-heavy loads to diamond mines and oil fields in Northern Canada and Alaska.  These tractor trailers are driving over frozen seas aka "ice roads".  They are literally driving 16,000 pound loads in their giant trucks on basically a frozen lake.  Their job is to haul their heavy and valuable loads through dangerous conditions as quickly and safely as possible because they more loads they haul, the more money they earn.

I really enjoy watching Ice Road Truckers which amuses me because I work and live at the beach in Jersey.  The show is a great mix of visuals, commentary about what is going on, natural hazards, and driver personality.  After watching the one hour show, I find myself impatient to see the next show and cranky to have to wait another week to see it.  Those who are looking for an entertaining TV show during the summer that isn't a bunch of repeats should check out the History Channel's Ice Road Truckers
