Ice Road Truckers —

Where did I find this show?
Well, we have a DVR and when I brought up the list of things I had taped I saw this show on there called Ice Road Truckers. Obviously my husband taped it, and I could not figure out what the heck that could be... The next day I asked him what it was. He said that it was a show about truckers that work up in the Northwest Territories in below zero weather. They deliver supplies to the diamond mines up there. The unique thing about this show is that the only way to get the supplies to the mines is to wait until the lakes freeze up and DRIVE ON THEM!!!- and only for an 8-10 week run, or you'll be falling through the ice (and did I mention you have to drive super slow and trips take hours and hours?!)!  I know...crazy...but true! Apparently this has been going on for YEARS, but not many know about it.

A bit of background -
The show is basically based around Hugh "The Polar Bear" Rowland who owns 4 trucks. He drives one and employs 3 other people to drive for him. It also follows a couple of other seasoned drivers. It documents the daily events and experiences on the ice roads, and follows the truckers lives. Trust me, there is an incident almost every day! They also keep a tally of who is making the most money. The other unique thing about this particular job is that the truckers can make a year's salary in 8-10 weeks because of the dangers involved.

The Characters:
Alex "The Veteran" Debegorski - Been on the ice roads the longest at 25 years
Hugh "The Polar Bear" Rowland - Started out building the ice roads, now driving them for over 20 years
Rick Yemm - (drives for Hugh) 2nd year on the ice and determined to beat Hugh
Drew Sherwood - (drives for Hugh) 1st year on the ice and having nothing but problems
Jay Westgard - 7 year veteran at only 23 years old
TJ Tillcox -  1st year on the ice and has had his share of experiences

My viewpoint -
I just love this show. It is a show like no other and sucks you in like a soap opera! Finally a reality show without the catfights and girl drama! It is on The History Channel Sunday nights at 10 p.m. I give this show a 5 star rating! I recommend you check it out!
