I have been using this puppy food for almost 3 years now. I have a Great Dane, Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever mix, and we kept him on this food for 2 years. We got a Labrador Retriever puppy who currently eats this but will soon be a year old and will transition to the adult version since he's not quite as large as our other dog. I really like that the #1 ingredient in this puppy food is chicken, and not a filler. The protein content is 26% which is very important for large breed dogs. Other ingredients include calcium and fatty acids. The fatty acids have really helped to keep both of my dog's coats shiny with no dandruff. My oldest dog is black, and he's so shiny that he almost looks blue. Every time I take him to the vet, she comments on how shiny his coat is. The younger one is a chocolate, so it's hard to get that color too shiny, but his coat is still very soft with no dandruff. To my knowledge, this dog food only comes in one flavor, but I never had any problems with either or my dogs eating it. This is the only dog food that I recommend to my friends and family who have large breed dogs.

I purchased this food because it was in my price range and it had a quality first ingredient (NOT CORN). I brought it home to my babies and they actually seemed to like it more than what I was previously feeding them. It has a nice little chart that tells you how much to feed each dog depending on their age and weight. My little puppy turned into a chunk! Anyway, I would recommend this because my older dog has a pretty sensitive stomach and digestive system and a lot of times she will throw up different foods or get diarrhea. She didn't with this dog food. She seemed to like it and each time I bought it for her (probably 8-9 more bags) she ate it with no problem. I would recommend this for puppies and adults up to two years of age. That's what is on the bag. My dogs got older so I switched to the Iams adult dog food and they love it as well. I like that they are quality ingredients that are healthy for my dog and don't make them poop like crazy! And it's inexpensive so it's good for me too :) Flavor Selection My dogs don't care about different flavors. Whatever this one was they seemed to love.

We started using this food when the vet recommended we use a large breed puppy food. We have a Rottweiler mix and he said she would be a good sized dog. At first, just like when changing any food, it took her a few days to get used to the idea of this food, but now she loves it. Even my cat eats it instead of her cat food! I like that it helps her grow slower in her puppy months and lets her bones have time to develop so she doesn't have hip or other bone problems later in life. This puppy formula also says its good up until 24 months instead of just 12. So she gets to eat the food she is used to longer and not switching at a year to adult food. Quality of Ingredients Everything I have heard about Iams, people always rave about the ingredients. It is what was highly recommended by our vet. Flavor Selection The puppy formula large breed only comes in 1 flavor so we don't have options in this department, but it would be nice if they could give different flavors. Not totally sure that the dog really cares though. She just likes to eat.

My puppy did not like Iams ProActive Health Smart Puppy Large Breed Dry Dog Food. I know it's a highly rated pet food and the reviews are good however my dog just did not like the taste. I had to bribe him to eat it by mixing it with Purina Puppy Chow. He is not usually a finicky eater and will eat almost anything however this brand was not appetizing to him! Quality of Ingredients I looked on a leading dogfood anylyzing website and this brand was rated fair contrary to all the hype IAMS gets. So there are better quality brands of dogfood out there that are not as popular and well known. Chicken is the first ingredient though which is something to look for in a quality pet food brand. Flavor Selection There is only one flavor for the large breed puppy food that I know of so selection is minimal. And it must be very bland since my puppy let it sit in his bowl for hours before he was so hungry that he had to eat!

We recently got a new dog in our family and she's a large Labrador mix. We decided to buy her this brand of dog food because it seemed to fit our needs and it was recommended on many websites that we had searched. After feeding it to our precious little girl, we found that she loved it and had no problems or complaints about eating it. We normally find that our puppies are very picky and hard to feed (or maybe we just spoil them too much), but with Iams, it wasn't difficult at all. She ate her whole bowl's worth of food and scampered away happily. After doing a little more research on the ingredients included in the dog food, we were happy to see that there were lots of fresh foods that were packed with vitamins and minerals that would help our little one grow up to be big and strong. We also noticed that there were a lot of meaty flavors in this brand, which was great because dogs absolutely adore meat. In all, it was a home run for us all!

Iams comes in several types and varieties. Regardless of which one you choose they are all healthy choices to feed your pet. We have used the puppy one as well as the one designed for the senior dogs. This food is designed to make strong healthy pets and they even have treats and bisquits for those times we want to give them something special. Quality of Ingredients Vitamins and minerals and good natural ingredients to help make your puppy grow strong, and is what makes this a good choice for feeding your puppy but we like the fact that as your puppy grows you can keep them on the same healthy diet and just switch them to the food that is keyed to the pets age and size. Flavor Selection Rice ad lamb seem to work on a sensitive stomach and we were told that Iams does not add corn to their pet food as corn is almost impossible for a dog to digest. You can't go wrong with this high quality pet food designed for each stage of your pets life.

We have a 8 month old German Shepherd who is extremely active. We were feeding him a more expensive pet store food and giving it to him based on the product directions, and even a little extra. He just wasn't gaining weight. He was getting downright skinny! We got a coupon for Iams and decided to try this type I mean he is super smart and should be growing into a large dog. First of all he loved it! He would happily retreat to his kennel and dig in to his twice a day feedings. Second, it is made from quality ingredients and no fillers. This dog food even contains DHA, an ingredient found in breast milk, which promotes healthy brain development! He has been so easy to train. Best of all our dog began to put on weight, his coat became smoother and shinier and he was just overall in better health. Now he is around 70 pounds and his vet says he is looking great! We had such wonderful results with our dog that we even switched our cat to an Iams food. Thanks Iams!

I adopted a 4 month old puppy mix from the animal shelter. Since I had a dog previously I kind of knew what to expect. This puppy is very active, so much so that I have to put him in his dog crate for him to rest. (it also helps me too). I believe his Iams puppy food gives him even more energy and he seems so happy. What I notices is that when he goes to the bathroom his stool is nice and firm and a good color. Quality of Ingredients I like that it has ingredients that I know are good for my dog Flavor Selection I can only say it must taste good, my dog has never left anything in his bowl.

I have been using "Iams Smart Puppy Large Breed Dry Food" since I adopted my puppy six months ago. I have a Boxer-Pit Bull mix who eats this food every day. She absolutely loves this food and has been as healthy as can be since we got her. My vet recommends this food and agrees it is the best food for young puppies (tied with maybe Science Diet). The food comes in a large bad and is very affordable. You can add warm water to it to add a bit of variety for your dog. Adding water will increase the smell of the food and change the texture which sort of tricks your dog into thinking it's a brand new treat. I would highly recommend this food for anyone with a young, still developing puppy. It has just about every bit of nutrition that a puppy needs. So, "The Honest Truth" is "Iams Smart Puppy Large Breed Dry Food" has been a great selection for my puppy and I am sure your dog would benefit from it too.
