Most HelpfulMy husband and I finally made the switch to internet banking this year. We researched several online banks and were sold on the ING Direct Orange Savings Account.
After receiving only pennies in interest from our local bank and credit union, we now receive a 3.0% Annual Percentage Yield (APY) on...

Most HelpfulI opened an ING direct originally because their interest rates were significantly better than the average banks. Now this is not so much the case. The rates through ING are still a bit better, but not by much. I honestly would say that the little bit you gain with ING is not really worth it considering...
review »ING Orange Savings account & ING CDs online at INGdirect.com
A very close friend introduced us (me & hubby) to ING for a basic saving acct, and even now, when the markets have turned, I can still get a "decent" interest rate without having to plunk down tens-of-thousands-of-dollars into a CD or the basic Orange Savings account. We've had BOA as our checking for a long time, and still have a tiny savings w/them as well, but our extra $$ (when we have it) goes right into ING. I'm talking peanuts here folks! Good interest rates on Peanuts! LOL We're scraping to have an Emergency cushion,...

ING Direct provides the common person a flexible savings environment. For as little as a $1 you can begin building your wealth. This eliminates the nay-sayers "I don't have enough money to save".
How can you beat the ZERO FEE's. Every bank I have ever walked into - i.e. brick and mortar, has placed a fee on something. Knowing my money will stay my money is a huge perk.
The greatest motivator, that is ONLY provided at ING Direct is their Interest Ticker. At any moment of any day you can see your money growing. Talk about motivation. It just makes you want to save more.

review »I have had an account with ING Direct for about four years, and I have been quite satisfied. I'm very glad that I haven't kept my savings holed up in a regular bank or credit union - I have made a lot more money this way. ING always has some of the best rates, in terms of savings and CD's. They are good at communicating things like rate changes, and sometimes offer perks and free cash if you, say, sign up a friend, or use your debit card. Their customer service is fantastic, and their website is well laid out and easy to use. Even thought they are "only" online, I consider them my primary bank....
review »ING Direct has NO FEES when you bank with them. They are the best and most secured internet banking that I have experienced. Every time I have a problem and need to call the Customer Service number, there is never a wait on the phone.
The only downside is you have to wait a few days for the money to be transferred if it is not within ING Direct. But for the advantage of having no fees at all, it is worth the wait if you plan ahead of time.
Savings rates are also higher than most banks. Worth checking it out!
I have been a customer of ING now for 2 years. They have great on-line accesss now - not so a year ago but they have greatly improved their sight. I have checking, savings, CD's, and a mortgage with them. They offer very competitive rates in all areas. On occaion, I have had to contact them by phone and found their representatives to be very knowledgeable and were able to quickly and correctly answer my questions. It is very easy to transfer money to and from my accounts within and outside of ING.
I LOVE my ING account! I've been using them since 2002 and have saved for College, Christmas, vacations, car, home repairs, even Investment. Over the years, they have worked to make the website simple, transparent and user-friendly.
When the sub-prime loan bank meltdown started several months ago, I was also thrilled to get an email from the President, assuring all savers that ING's books were strong. What a relief! I recommend them to everyone I know.

ING has great advertisers and makes online banking accessible to the masses not willing to do the research. The interface is great, the rates are okay. However, I've heard one too many people claim the rates can't be beat and that's just wrong. There are a lot of banks (online mainly) that offer better rates and similar no minimums. Just because ING advertising better doesn't mean you're getting the most for your money.
I love this bank everything is done online and I don't have to worry about them sending me paper in the mail. I have acess 24 hours a day and can easily transfer money in and out. The interest they pay is also more than my local bank. Also, no atm fees except what the local bank charges.
I have both a savings and a CD with ING Direct Savings and find it very easy to use and always seem to have really good interest rates.
