Last Saturday I went to Ikea, Boilngbrook IL. ,for the first time rather then my usually destination Ikea Schaumburg, IL. I was looking for a cabinet and a sink to remodel the bathroom. I saw one in display that I liked. I then asked the person in charge of the bath section to help me get the cabinet and sink. I pointed out which one I wanted and she walked to her computer and a few minutes later walks back to me with a sheet of paper. Since I TRUSTED the Ikea employee, I folded the sheet of paper and put it in my pocket and went about my way around the store looking to give more of my money to Ikea.
I went home and assembled one of the cabinets and discovered that the cabinet was wrong. After a couple days later I drove back to the Ikea in Bolingbrook, IL. which took me an hour. When I got there, they told me I couldn't return the wrong cabinet that Ikea employee had reserved for me to pick up. The store manager tells me I couldn't return the product was because it was assembled and it had some scratches on the side. How else would I have known that the cabinet was wrong if I didn't assemble it. As for the scratches on the side, why would I damage something I know I would be using. The only explanation for the scratches it's because Ikea has cheap quality.
The one thing that blew me away was when the store manager told me that I should have checked to see the dimensions on cabinet and sink. Yes, the cabinet and the sink were the correct dimensions. Like millions of Ikea customer, you assemble the product first to find out that Ikea sold you the wrong one. The next time you buy anything at Ikea you need to spend hours and hours at Ikea reading the specs, because the Ikea employees can't be trusted in doing there JOBS!!! When I asked him the manager to show me where the specs are he told me he had somewhere else to go (is this what you call customer service).
I wasn't returning the cabinet, I was simply exchanging it for a more expensive one. Just because of this incident, I will be returning $300.00 worth of products I purchased on Saturday, when the cabinet was only $25.00. Ikea lost me as a customer. I will also be telling my family, friends, and co-workers regarding this unfortunate incident and influence them not to do any business with Ikea.
