For me, going to Akia is like a child going to Toys R Us for the first time.  From the minute you enter the parking lot, make the treck into the front door, it's exciting.  The smell of their wonderful foodcourt permiates your nostrils the instant you enter the door.  They have a wonderful, secure play area where you check the kiddies in so you (as well as other shoppers) can enjoy the shopping experience with out the strollers in the way and the kids have a wonderful time while there as well.  You hop on the escalator to the showroom, and OMG the experience begins.  Fresh, cool, new ideas everywhere, from living room, dining room, bedroom (adult, kids, toddlers, babies & teens), then the bathroom, closets, nooks and studio or apartments, everything is amazing.  I have gotten so many good ideas and have redone several rooms in my house or at least redecorated them.  My girlfriends and I usually spend about 2 hours wandering the showroom, then it's over to the foodcourt for some wonderful meatballs or a sandwich and discussion on what great ideas we found and what items we want to purchase all the while enjoying the beautiful view from the picture window that spans the length of the foodcourt.  We really enjoy getting there about sunset to watch the georgeous colors of the Oregon sunsets.  After this relaxing 45 minutes or so, we head downstairs to the "warehouse" area to gather items from our list and browse the fun stuff they have in the area before the cash registers.  The lines are usually very long but everyone seems to start conversations with each other, commenting on things they purchased that somehow you missed during your walk thru, just sealing the deal that you'll definately have to come back later in the month (or sooner).  We use to travel all the way to Seattle, making a whole day trip of it, but we are so excited to have Akia in Portland.  Our twice a year trip to Akia Seattle has now become a once or twice a month trip to Akia Portland.  If you have yet to experience Akia, do it today!!!

In light of Shelliem's appreciation for this store, I am bemused
by the fact that she can't spell the store's name. It's IKEA and not Akia.
