I love my Ikea Expedit Bookcase. It can hang on the wall if you would like with secure fasteners, and looks super-cool that way if I do say so myself. I like how the backs are open so on the shelves where I don't have baskets, I have put really pretty scrapbook paper secured with painters tape behind them. The decorating options are endless as are the organizational properties. They now offer it in more colors than they did when I purchased it (the white one), but with baskets and paper, the color of the unit doesn't really matter. It did take me and my husband working together to assemble it, but it was very quick and easy. I would say from opening the box to shelf assembled in about 8 minutes. I have two daughters and they claimed their spaces on the shelf right away. It's nice because at the end of the day now it is easy for them to clean up all of their art supplies and projects. The only thing I think I would change about it is if it were "paintable". The material it is made from cannot be painted, it won't adhere properly, but like I said, I found ways around that. I liked this shelf so much I am buying an additional one (similar model) to use as an entertainment system in the rec room.

We've had this bookcase for a few years and really love it. We use it as a room divider and love that the sections are open. Because it's used as a room divider, we can place objects and books facing two ways. My biggest issue with this bookcase was that it took two people to put together.

This is a nice looking solid bookcase. I had had it for about 3 plus years.  It's very sturdy and can hold a lot of items. I usually place the heavier items on the bottom of the unit.  It makes a nice looking room divider too. The height is just right for me.   It's easy to maintan with a damp cloth and light pressure dusting. The finish is nice and smooth. You may need someone to help you assemble it because of the weight on the support ends.  It's easier with help but not impossible without.  There are a lot of pieces involved but worth the effort.  You will definitely need help to stand it up I tried but just could not do it. I have moved this unit after it was fully assembled three times.  Once fully loaded with heavy books gliding across a tile floor without any help. The last two times I had help. Not because I needed it but because it was available to me.  The unit did not wobble at all. this was a good buy. I just may buy another one for my bedroom to use as a headboard.

This is a great bookcase. I have the 2x4 and I love it. It extremely versitile. I have 2 in different rooms. I have one in a child's room. It is great for organizing toys, books, and other items. It has nice clean lines and fits well in the room. I also have another 2x4 in the family room. It is great for setting books and other decorations on. One thing I love about the 2 x 4 is that I can I can rotate it and get different looks. The expedit bookcase is made of solid material. It is very sturdy and I have not had an issue with it being wobbly. Which is good if you have little ones. The book case comes in a variety of finishes, which means it can fit with any decore. As with all Ikea items, you have to keep in mind that you need to put it together. It is pretty simple to put together, and does not take a long time. The 2x4 can be put together in less than thirty minutes. I love this bookcase and would recommend it to people who need something that is realatively cheap.

This is a great bookcase. It was easy enough to put together, although we did misread the instructions and ended up with one shelf facing the wrong direction. We did not need to secure the bookcase to the wall as suggested, it stood strong all on it's own. It has held up for over two years without even a scratch. It is sturdy and has a classic style. Everything we wanted in a bookcase, and for a great price.

I was in a major need of a new book shelf! When I came to IKEA to hopefully find one that I like, I stumbled across this great white shelf that I can seriously use to my expense. When it was put together and up in my living room, I started to really organize my stuff on the shelves and it came out really nicely with the things and books I had! A great buy!

I have the large Expedit bookcase in black. It was a little tricky to put together, because it is so large. As each level of shelves was added, it became a little more difficult to get the next row on. The last one was very challenging, requiring some leverage and a lot of determination. Once it was together, though, it is great. It fits all of my books, with several shelves available for some of the attractive baskets Ikea sells. I like that it came with brackets to attach it to the wall - if this fell on someone they would be seriously injured.

I have 4 of the Expedit bookshelves from Ikea, two different types.  I have the 8 hole bookshelf as well as the 5. I absolutely love them.  Three of them I have put together as a walk-by closet due to the lack of space in my apartment.  It comprises of two of the 8 hole standing up straight, with the 5 hole laying down long ways and a clothing rod screwed into the two 8 hole.  They are sturdy and have withstood a great deal of use! The other shelf I use as a TV stand.  I wasn't able to find a stand that would hold my 50" television that was a nice piece for a reasonable piece of money. I went out on a limb and hoped that this would work and it does! It holds our television, cable box, xbox, wii, video games, dvds and a variety of other objects.  I used the Kassett storages boxes in conjunction to make the storage more streamlined. Definitely recommend these! While they do take a little bit of time to assembly, by the second one I had no problem whatsoever. Just have to get into a groove and make sure that you take your time when assembling them. Any product is going to come out looking like junk if you just slap it together!! If you take your time and try to follow the directions, it will come out looking great!

My IKEA store had a wonderful sale of very limited time sale and this IKEA expedit bookcase was one of the very few items that was part of this sale. I think it was on sale not because it was a bad product but because this thing is so large and enormous that many people cannot justify purchasing such a efficient and large bookcase. But assuming that you need such a bookcase in assuming that you have the space within your home to accommodate such a large piece of furniture, then really there is no hesitation necessary as the IKEA expedit the case is by all means a very good bookcase. As I said it is extremely large and can handle most volumes of books with ease. I have seen people paint their bookcase to accommodate the surrounding areas and that is always an option that you can take if you do not like the colors.

I haven't IKEA Billy bookcase but I also have this IKEA expedit book case in my living room. I use it for more than just a bookcase however and I got the idea by looking at an ikea catalog that they mailed home to me. For some of the shelves I do put books in their blame others I will have a ploy perhaps the plant or perhaps a souvenir that I brought back from one of my recent trips. It is a great placeholder in a great way to decorate your living room. The billy bookcase which is a lot smaller than does was heavy and this one was very very heavy to bring back home. I definitely recommend you go with a friend or with a family member to make the job easier for you. Construction took a reasonable amount of time nothing too bad. Quality is decent for the money which is IKEA's selling point. If you want a very good organizer this is it.
