Deserves More Than Five Stars

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

We have had our Ikea Expedit bookcase for about two years now. We purchased the brown/black model with 8 cubes to go in our living room. It was slightly hard to set up, but now it's sturdy and heavy and has no marks, scratches, no nothing - it looks and feels like real, quality furniture. For flat-packed furniture under a hundred bucks, I continue to be amazed by this product - you can use it anywhere and do anything with it, especially if you add on the doors or drawers or baskets, or any of the other little accessories that Ikea sells. Another plus is that it just looks NICE. It instantly adds some modern to your decor, and it's totally functional, allowing you to organize different things into each cube if you like, or just use it as a standard bookshelf. I have absolutely no complaints about the Expedit bookcase - I love how it looks, how easy it is to clean, what it cost - everything.

great organizer

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I haven't IKEA Billy bookcase but I also have this IKEA expedit book case in my living room. I use it for more than just a bookcase however and I got the idea by looking at an ikea catalog that they mailed home to me. For some of the shelves I do put books in their blame others I will have a ploy perhaps the plant or perhaps a souvenir that I brought back from one of my recent trips. It is a great placeholder in a great way to decorate your living room. The billy bookcase which is a lot smaller than does was heavy and this one was very very heavy to bring back home. I definitely recommend you go with a friend or with a family member to make the job easier for you. Construction took a reasonable amount of time nothing too bad. Quality is decent for the money which is IKEA's selling point. If you want a very good organizer this is it.

marvelous bookcase

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

My IKEA store had a wonderful sale of very limited time sale and this IKEA expedit bookcase was one of the very few items that was part of this sale. I think it was on sale not because it was a bad product but because this thing is so large and enormous that many people cannot justify purchasing such a efficient and large bookcase. But assuming that you need such a bookcase in assuming that you have the space within your home to accommodate such a large piece of furniture, then really there is no hesitation necessary as the IKEA expedit the case is by all means a very good bookcase. As I said it is extremely large and can handle most volumes of books with ease. I have seen people paint their bookcase to accommodate the surrounding areas and that is always an option that you can take if you do not like the colors.

Very Pretty

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

IKEA Expedite Bookcase is like many other IKEA furniture, comes in many different colors to match your other room and furniture. This is perfect stylish bookcase to places against one side of the wall or even to place it in the middle of the room. It can act as a room divider and as a shelf. This is perfect for holding books but because of its cube shaped shelves, it is also stylish when placing other home decors on it. IKEA also sells shelf boxes made of canvas which also helps to store away messy contents in clean cube like a cubbie. Only thing to note about this is that, it is very hard to assemble on your own due to the heaviness of the boards and the frame sizes are pretty large. Also compare to other furniture that consist of few pieces, this is made up of multiple pieces and will require just little more concentration. But like any other IKEA furniture, it is still simple enough to put together without any problem.

Awesome bookcase!

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

Ikea is always an interesting place to visit. The style of much of their furniture is oftentimes quirky and does not seem like a good fit in the average house or apartment. However, I quickly fell in love with the Expedit bookcase. The design is very simple, no random frills or decorations. It lends itself very well to storage with it's square compartments. I currently have three of the 2x4 bookcases and one 2x2 in different rooms. Two of them serve as bookcases, as they should. These are very nice looking in the dark brown wood finish and we have plenty of room for leftover textbooks as well as a growing novel collection. The other 2x4 bookcase serves as general storage. There is room to stack puzzles and boardgames on the top shelves and places for my knitting supplies in Ikea's fabric drawers on the bottom. All in all, this bookcase is very nice, though I would be wary of ever moving it after it is assembled. It adds a little bit of organization to my cluttered space.

I love this book shelf and would like to have more!

Overall

My husband and I purchased a 4x4 Expedit bookcase four years ago when we were first married. We have used it for many things while we have had it-as it is very versatile. When we were first married we used this as a room divider in our town house that had an open concept to divide the living room and dinning room areas. We used it to store extra stemware (installed two wine glass holders in two cubes), books, cook books, plants, photo albums, blankets (in baskets), and a few other random things.

Once we had a child we ended up purchasing more of the baskets so we could have the two bottom rows full of baskets for things we needed on the first floor for the baby-without ...

Expedit = Versatile

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

We first bought this Ikea Expedit bookcase when my husband worked from home and needed a new desk set-up.  We bought it in black as well as the attachment desk pieces.  It worked wonderfully well as an office desk in our spare room for a few years.  Then, as our lives changed with the addition of a baby, we moved furniture around in our house.  We attached the desk piece directly to the wall and moved the Expedit bookcase into our dining room.  It has been there for over a year now and works wonderfully well as a place for cookbooks, tchotchkies, and the bottom two rows have become toy storage for my son.

The Expedit bookcase is sturdy and durable.  We had a small water leak which warped one end of our bookcase, but it honestly is hard to tell that it even occurred.  It is a heavy piece of furniture but very versatile.  The inexpensive price tag also makes this bookcase a winner!  We love our Expedit!

The Expedit is a lifesaver!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I have 4 of the Expedit bookshelves from Ikea, two different types.  I have the 8 hole bookshelf as well as the 5. I absolutely love them.  Three of them I have put together as a walk-by closet due to the lack of space in my apartment.  It comprises of two of the 8 hole standing up straight, with the 5 hole laying down long ways and a clothing rod screwed into the two 8 hole.  They are sturdy and have withstood a great deal of use! The other shelf I use as a TV stand.  I wasn't able to find a stand that would hold my 50" television that was a nice piece for a reasonable piece of money. I went out on a limb and hoped that this would work and it does! It holds our tele...

It's not the nicest but its useful.

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I don't expect too much in terms of quality and style for IKEA products, but this isn't too bad. I think when it just comes down to it is that you're filling most of this structure with your own stuff so you can make whatever you want of it. I don't have the white though, I thought that it was a little too visibly abrasive. It takes up some good space, but can be used for many things. It's a little hard to put together with all of the screws and boards and it surely isn't made to be moved around after the first time. So be prepared to take it apart a little bit to be able to carry it out the door. For the price I think it's pretty good. It's sure a lot cheaper than some other stores out there. I think for a starter apartment it's a good value, but if you own a home and want something that will last longer and look nicer, you probably should spring for something else that doesn't come from IKEA.

Fits every home and office!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

Sometimes you wonder whether you should sacrifice quality for price. But a lot of times you just don't have the choice. That was on my mind when I shopped at Ikea. When I was in college, I was mesmerized by the selection and simple chic of Ikea. But as I grow older, I started to come to appreciate solid wood furniture, and a lot of time the vintage and antique look. So in my home, i'm having a mixture of cheap contemporary from ikea's and a few pieces of antique look here and there. It's a lot of planning, but it worked! You just have to pick the right pieces so the combination will look tasteful and not plain awkward. For some reason you can't go wrong with the Expedit bookcase. I have this in one of my rooms, in which I organized all yarns in different color to go with each other. Very colorful and fun. On the side, I have a shabby chic bedframe and a crystal chandelier to top it off. I've seen this piece in different environment, and it seems to go with anything!

Ikea Expedit bookcase is versatile, inexpensive & easy to build!

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

The Ikea Expedit bookcase comes in several different sizes, all of which are very inexpensive for the amount of storage you get from each piece. In dollars and cents, the value you get from this or any Ikea bookcase line is way beyond what you'll get from any other retailer. Same/similar materials, just a much better price. I AM not good at putting together furniture from scratch, but I bought the 8 "cube" size and put it together in about 15 minutes.!! Super easy to do - with pre-drilled holes and dowels inserted into same. All you need is a rubber mallet or a padded hammer to give the dowels a final tap or two. Dividers are dropped into slots as you go - no rocket science here! Can be use...

Love this bookcase, but it's tough to assemble

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I'm a big IKEA fan, and I furnished my first apartment with a number of their products, including an IKEA Expedit bookcase. This Expedit bookcase has been one of my favorite purchases ever! I love the look fo the bookcase, the style of having the multiple box-style look, and the classic IKEA black-brown coloege. My biggest complaint about the bookcase is that it was tough to assemble; however, I (someone with little experience with building furniture) was able to put it together myself (it may have taken me 2 hours or so). I think I paid around $100-150 for the bookcase, which I found to be a very reasonable price for it's quality. This is not one of the IKEA products that's particle bo...

Perfect for our Toddler's Bedroom

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

In a small home with two kids and no playroom, we need and love storage solutions, especially our 4 by 4 Expedit in white.  I did some online searches and found several charming images of Expedits looking stylish and useful in lots of playrooms and children's bedrooms.  I knew that this would be a piece that could be used in so many different ways.  Even though it stores toys now in our son's bedroom, I'm sure we'll make use of it as craft or office storage in the future.

A few things we've learned: - Don't fill every inch of it.  Part of its good looks is the open, airy feel.   Unify the look with a consistest color scheme.-It for...

This is a great Bookcase

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

These are wonderful bookcases. Ikea is quite a drive from my house and I went there specifically because of their prices and the high quality. This particular book case is great for more things than just books. I call it everything has it's place book case. When I am about to have company over and I just need to store the nic nacks away I can easily throw them in this bookcase.

Each hole is the perfect size for the small baskets you can find at stores like Target or Walmart. I store everything from future birthday presents to small action figures from my childhood in this bookcase.

It is pretty easy to put together. The only suggestion I have is that you make sure you put it together with a blanket underneath. It is pretty heavy and very hard to get up without a little extra lift. I love that Ikea makes there directions for kindergardeners.

I would suggest this to anyone who needs extra storage space.

Looks great and holds all the toys

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I was redoing my kids "baby" room into their "young child" room.  I designed the room from scratch and everything looked great except I was at a loss as to how to store all their toys.  I didn't want them all on the floor and I didn't want to be able to look in their room and see all their toys whether they were neatly placed or strewn about.  A friend of mine had this IKEA Expedit system and I hadn't even considered it until one day it just hit me.  I measured it out and it fit the room perfectly.  I purchased it in birch and brought it home.  It was fairly easy to put together and it definately took two people to complete.  Once up, I thought it looked to...
