I purchased 3 Billy Bookcases from Ikea a few years ago and they are still standing and in mighty fine shape considering they have been through two house moves! Sometimes with these self-build projects you find that each time you disassemble them they get chipped and weakened in some way but this is not so with these bookcases. They feel ever so sturdy in spite of the fact that I keep more than 250 dvd's and a few ornaments in each. Clearly they are not to be climbed on but I caught my toddler standing on the lower shelves and I couldn't believe they could hold his weight (just to give you an idea of how heavy duty they are!). The shelves are adjustable to you can have them higher or lower and there is a bracket/tie which comes with the flat-pack which enables you to attach them to the wall so that they can't accidently be pulled over. I have average skill with a screwdriver and hammer and I was easily able to follow the enclosed instructions and put them together in not very long at all. I'm really pleased with my purchases.

I like the look but the auto door opening bracket keeps falling down on every shelf I have (6 of them). This is a design flaw that needs to be addressed. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this product until this problem is fixed.

I have the bigger bookcase and I love it. The shelves are deep and really sturdy. This is great for keeping heavy books such as text books, etc without the shelves warping. My parents have had the billy bookcase for over 20 years and they are in perfect condition.

I really, really like this bookcase. I have the very dark brown version to go with the dark colored furniture in my bedroom, and it looks very clean and classy. I love glancing over from my bed and seeing all my books organized instead of stacked up on top of one another on my desk and in my closet like they had been. The bookcase is pretty roomy. On one of the bottom shelves, I have about 25 large, thick books. The middle shelves I have about 40 average sized books on them each. And the very top shelf has 60 small, thin books. You have to assemble the bookcase yourself, but it's not that difficult and it allows you to place the shelves at whatever height you want (with some parameters), so you can have the big books on the bottom like I did. You also can bolt the bookcase to the wall behind it. I did this and the bookcase doesn't move or sway at all. I also purchased the extra shelf accessory to go on top of the bookcase, so I have 8 shelves total. It really helps because I probably have around 400 books in this bookcase. I have no cons for this product. Yes, it's from IKEA and it's nice and cheap, but I've had no problems with the quality at all and I've had the bookcase for over 4 months now. The back paneling is a bit flimsy, but the shelves and the sides are all thick planks of wood, so if you bolt the bookcase to the wall like I did, you shouldn't have any problems with it lasting. I'm very satisfied with its looks and functionality and would recommend it to people who own a lot of books.

I bought several of these to store all of the books my husband and I have "collected" over the last few years.  These book cases are not only affordable but they are also very sturdy.  It is amazing what great quality they are when you look at the ikea selling price. In the store buying the shelves I was impressed with how many of the associates that were willing to help with exact measurements and finding the best product to fit how many books we needed in the space we had. Another thing I love about these shelves are how easy they were to put together.  The directions basically have no words it is all pictures.  They are very easy to follow and if you do get hung up you can call and actually get a hold of a person that can help answer any questions.  They also included extra pieces in case if you loose a screw or small piece.  Again I would suggest this product to anyone that needs a good quality, affordable, dependable book shelf.

The IKEA Billy bookcase is a single power book case that is adequate for a small book collection. It is ideal for a college student who needs to clean and organize his or her room. There are several different layers each one identical that allows you to very easily place your books aside. The construction seems very good and seems no different really from other IKEA products are purchased in the past. It was not too expensive to purchase which is a very typical IKEA thing. I needed help bring this whole because although it is not an extremely large , it is still heavy. Construction did not take very long and I had it up and running in no time. It doesn't hurt that the IKEA is a good looking bookcase. It goes well with my room and it looks fantastic.

We purchased Ikea Billy Bookcase to accomodate my son's books. We had been using IKEA furniture since couple of years, so we thought we would not go wrong by picking up the Billy Bookcase shelf. But it was one of our biggest mistake. The shelf was easy to carry and fix and it added a very nice look to my son's room. The problem started after my son organised all his books in the shelf. After a couple of months, we saw one of the partition shelf was sagging a bit. We thought it was due to over weight and checked the other partition slabs also. All of them were sagging at one point or the other. So, the problem was not with the weight. We tightened the screws hoping it would do some help. But none of them helped and finally it is waiting in one corner of the room for it way out of the house. Hmm waste of time and money.

This bookcase is probably my favorite piece of furniture. I bought it not long after I graduated. I was so happy when I found it. It was reasonably priced, it was large enough to hold my books and knick-knacks, it was versatile enough for my liking and I was very happy with the simple design and color. You can remove a few of the individual shelves to make bigger or smaller spaces and I love that type of flexibility. You can either buy a single bookcase or a few of them and place them side-by-side to give the look of an entire wall of shelves. The height and width are perfect and can fit into a lot of different places. The material is durable and I have used this bookcase for years without any wear or tear. It's not too heavy and can be easily broken down which is convenient whenever you need to move. You can buy different sizes of Billy bookcases, it's a whole line of furnishings at IKEA.

I'm a big fan of Ikea and in particular, I like this bookcase since it is really simple, yet sturdy, and nice. I put it in my living room and it looks very suitable with other stuffs. All of my friends loved it when they came to visit. It looks more expensive, ellegant than its price. First of all, it's extremely easy to be built by just following simple steps as in the instruction of Ikea. I always love Ikea because of this reason. And it's quite meaningful to build up somethings by yourself. Besides, it has plenty of space to put books on it and good for nerds. And since I have so many books, I cannot be more happy with it. It's also sturdy, which is safe for my small kid. I was worried a bit about this problem but after checking several times, I feel ok now. Furthermore, you can choose the color you like. I chose the brown one and I like it. You definitely should go to Ikea to have a look and choose the color that matches with other furnitures in your house if you want to have one.

We bought this bookcase to add to our other bookcase that we have. This one by far is a LOT bigger and taller and holds more books. This book case was very inexpensive and it was very easy to install. The bookcase also came with hooks to fasten the bookcase into the wall (which is nice since we have little ones at home). If you fasten it to the wall it isn't wobbly any more, we've also put smaller thin wood planks under the book case to help keep it level, which doesn't make it wobble anymore as well! It's clean and it matches other furniture that we've got from IKEA. It is now being used in our office and on every shelf there is about 20lbs of books, so its a very sturdy bookcase. Even though the bookcase isn't real wood, it still is very durable and holds a lot of stuff. If we would've known how sturdy it was we wouldn't have purchased other bookcases and just purchased more of these so they all match.
