I currently have 2 cats. One (female) is aged 7 years, the other (male) 17 years. This kibble is their basic staple every day. It seems to provide the proper nutrition that both cats need. They remain quite healthy with bright eyes and shiny coats.
Originally I had started feeding my male cat some of the less-expensive brands (Purina, Meow Mix), but the vet and I found that their higher ash content seemed to cause some digestive problems. Once I switched over to Iams, the trouble immediately disappeared. Having used Iams for 17 years, I believe that better nutrituion may have contributed to my older cat's longevity and good health -- he's approximately the equivalent of 86 in human years. My 7-year-old girl has been eating Iams all her life, and her coat is goregous. She has plenty of energy for play. Sometimes it really is worth the extra cost. If your cat is a family member more than just a pet, they deserve the best care and the best food.
