I love Sarah Silverman. I do. I have a girl-crush on her. Hardcore. I want her to make me ice cream...(sigh)... So in the interest of full disclosure, I cannot write an objective review about this movie, no matter how hard I try.
Anyway, I very much enjoyed this film. It's everything I want in a romantic comedy - witty, zany, sweet, and full of the ups-and-downs of genuine relationships crammed into less than 120 minutes. The city of Chicago is a major character in the film as well, with location being as important in every scene as the actors themselves. Some of the city's best kept secrets are on display here with Second City, the Southport lingerie spot Trousseau, and even the amphitheatre seats at Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millenium Park making cameo appearances. As the characters' lives entangle among the sleepy bedroom streets of some of the north side's greatest neighborhoods, you cannot help falling in love with the city itself. This is not the sophisticated Chicago romantic comedies of late, however (Stranger Than Fiction, The Break-Up, High Fidelity, just to name a few...). This has the feel of a student film or something you and your friends might write, direct and star in because you were bored over the Memorial Day weekend.
In short, this is a tiny, easily overlooked, indie triumph that makes for a great Friday night with your best girlfriend.
