Adam Sandler and Kevin James deliver every bit as much side-splitting humor as you would expect from two popular and experienced comedians, and they play off of one another's characters well. Kevin James plays Larry, a great buddy to his fellow firemen, an awkward but caring father, and a long-grieving widower who's lost the courage and the heart to pursue new women. Adam Sandler plays Chuck, a womanizing playboy who's only interest is having a good time, with his buddies and with the ladies. When Larry realizes the only way to ensure his children's security is to "marry" his reluctant but loyal best friend Chuck, and the city begins to question and investigate their "marriage", hilarity ensues as they take the farce to further and further levels, and all the while Chuck is distracted by their gorgeous lawyer Alex (Jessica Biel).
Predictably, the film has as many gay jokes as an early Eddie Murphy standup routine, but the film manages to avoid being offensive or distasteful. And while "Chuck and Larry" supports tolerance and understanding, it manages to do so in a subtle way that makes you sympathize with the characters, instead of being forceful, preachy, and dull in the way many homophobic religious groups (also represented in the film) can be.
This film is both hilarious and heartwarming- a great treat.
