I Am Legend (2007) Review Summary

I Am Legend is a frightening story about a genetically engineered virus destroying most of the human race, making its lone survivor Will Smith. Based on the book of the same name, it's the third movie to do so, the others being The Omega Man and The Last Man On Earth. Viewpoints moviegoers found the CGI of the zombies to be realistically terrifying. While some reviewers found I Am Legend to be just as good as any other Will Smith flick with themes of "faith, love, and sacrifice," others found it to be nothing more than a "big-budget zombie movie." I Am Legend was also deemed too scary for its PG-13 rating, especially the scenes that depict cruelty to animals.

I was surprised my mom actually wanted to see I Am Legend since the previews made it look a little scary to me.  In the end, we all enjoyed the film and overall I can't give it less than 5 stars.  I almost gave it 4 stars because it did scare me a little, but then realized it was meant to be a horror...

I have always been a big fan of Will Smith and usually love all his movies. But....

Where do I begin?????  The most exciting part was at the very end.

The movie starts out with some news show. A woman is being interviewed and she claims the scientists have found the cure for cancer. She goes over the...

Bottom-Line: On many levels I Am Legend entertains, but in the end falls a little short of the novels mark, but it still managed to stick to me like peanut-butter.

I Am Legend is the latest screen adaptation of Richard Matheson's 1954 science fiction novel of the same name.  This Will Smith vehicle is the third (credited) movie based upon the novel; the other two are The Last Man on Earth (1964) with Vincent Price, and The Omega Man (1971) with Charlton Heston.  But a convincing argument can be made that the book has influenced scores of other movies (and video games) over the years most notable...

This film was adapted from the original I am Legend Novel written by Richard Matheson in 1954. This is the third film made from his novel the first was The Last Man on Earth in 1964 and then The Omega Man in 1971. It is a story about Lt. Colonel Robert Neville (Will Smith) an Army Virologist who believes he is the last unaffected human left on earth.

The lethal virus began as a re-engineered measles virus that was to be a cure for cancer but it mutated into a deadly virus. Those that didn't die were transformed into vampire like creatures that hid during the day in buildings. During the day...

In anticipation to see this film, I had developed a sense of what it could be about.  First and foremost, I believe this to be like any typical zombie movie.  Having loved "28 Weeks Later", I hoped it was similar to that plot.  I also felt like it would be more about trying to find a cure for these so-called zombies.

The movie completely surprised me.   I had expected more about surviving rather than a story about a man who has dealt with loss, who may be the only person left on the planet.  You completely feel for Robert Neville  Alone in a world full of infected beings and animals, such...

This definately isn't one that I would recommend for children.  It is frightening and the layout of the movie makes it seem like something that could really happen and the scary thing is that it could.  I was pleased that there was very little foul language, and that's always a plus for me!

I found that the movie's strongest point was Will Smith.  With any other actor the movie would not have had a leg to stand on.  I am a huge Will Smith fan and I feel that he was a huge asset to this movie.

I have not read anything that this movie was based on or seen any of the prior B-Movies.  I must say...

We all by now know what the movie is about so details aside this was my weekend pick and while it was not a total bust I did find myself YAWNing a little but the movie did deliver some goods. The special effects were very cool and on point but the spaces inbetween were left a little empty especially at the end! Overall this movie was not a total bust but I was expecting better.

I have been looking forward to this movie for awhile. We rented it and got comfortable for a good, two + hour film.
The movie was wonderful. Gritty, frightening, realistic, sad, and even sometimes funny. I love the relationship that Neville had with Sam, his dog. Anyone that is a dog lover, and has dogs in your family knows that kind of relationship, but, to really stop and think if that was your ONLY companion, your only friend.....how deep and strong that connection would become for not only you, but, the dog as well.
The scene where Sam was attacked and then Neville tried to save him, but, ultimately...

Will Smith is possibly the biggest (and most unappreciated) film star I have seen.  And I mean that with all of my film-noggin power (is that a word?).  Mainly because every movie he's been in guarentees millions of dollars.  And yes, they are involve his witty humor, his power abs and sexy looks, and even his ability to kick some ass.  But in this movie, you see a very different Will Smith, a somewhat, how should I say, "realistic," on his character, Robert Neville.

The story is about a guy in the future, where gas is 6 dollars a gallon, who's actually...the last guy on Earth.

Ok simple enough,...

I went with a diverse group of family members to see "I Am Legend" on the first night of its release, and none of us were very impressed.  As always, Will Smith doesn't disappoint, and the crumbling and overgrown Manhattan set is very convincing.  Additionally, Sam the dog is probably the best thing in the movie, but I don't think there is anything else I can recommend about this pic.

The premise is only minimally convincing, so the movie is somewhat set up to fail.  Throughout the film, there are flashbacks that explain what happened to everyone in the world, and how Will Smith is left...

"I am Legend" came out on preview, I knew I was going to have to see it! Of course, they do try to pull you in with the previews! Successful!

Saw this at the theatre which was definitely a plus! Loved It! Could not wait for the video to come out so we could watch it again at home! Have probably watched it four or five times since we bought it!

I do love Will Smith as an actor, but I am a critic also!. However, Will does not disappoint! He played his character well! Especially when he went a little off and started talking to the mannequin in the video store like she was real, then getting upset...

I am Legend.  Based on the many commercials for this film I was expecting something amazing; something fantastic; something that would keep my attention, be suspenseful.

I was completely disappointed.

While this is a great film, worth renting for sure, the amount for the movie theatre was more than I would have spent IF I had known what the film was truly like.  Will Smith gives an admirable performance as what he believes to be the last human on earth.  The night-time and dark areas give way to a mutated human race that feed on the living...much like the living dead movies, these are a type of...

I went to see this with my husband who loves anything that's sci-fi in nature. I don't usually enjoy movies that are of the scary, zombie-ish type. and I anything too intense causes me nightmares most of the time. But I have to say that I really did enjoy this movie, aside from the very predictable, but none the less sad scenes with his family and Sam, the dog. Will Smith has always been entertaining in most everything I've seen him in. He is an actor who can play a diverse lot of characters and do it well. The set was also very well done and although a lot of the movie was no doubt CG, it was... review »

Definitely a movie worth seeing.   I like it overall, but I am a big fan of the main character "winning out" in the end.  Would have liked a different ending, but I would watch it again.  The use of computer-generated imaging was of an excellent quality.  I am not a big fan of horror films and would classify this film as more of a suspense thriller than a horror movie.  It's plot is somewhat believable...especially with all the areas that scientists are now experimenting in. It's had a very unique storyline that I haven't seen in other films.  Will Smith did his typical outstanding job!... review »

I went to see I Am Legend in IMAX with a few friends this weekend. Will Smith plays his role as a sole-surviving member of the human race very well. There is great chemistry between Smith and his canine acting companion as well. This movie has some great action scenes and some very suspenseful moments. If you haven't yet seen a movie in IMAX, this would be a great one to begin with. Though the acting somewhat suffers in the latter part of the film, the action more than makes up for it. If you are into action adventure movies, this is for you.
