I have been looking forward to this movie for awhile. We rented it and got comfortable for a good, two + hour film.
The movie was wonderful. Gritty, frightening, realistic, sad, and even sometimes funny. I love the relationship that Neville had with Sam, his dog. Anyone that is a dog lover, and has dogs in your family knows that kind of relationship, but, to really stop and think if that was your ONLY companion, your only friend.....how deep and strong that connection would become for not only you, but, the dog as well.
The scene where Sam was attacked and then Neville tried to save him, but, ultimately couldn't, was so heart wrenching! Imagine how terrifying that would be! But, the scene that really go to me, was when he went back to the movie rental place, and finally went to speak to the "girl" mannequin.....and he begged her to say hello to him...I lost it.
This movie truly showed the reality of being all alone in this world. Will Smith, as always, did a superb job. He brought this character to life for me. It sent shivers down my spine. It made me think if I could survive if something so catastrophic happened. They are coming out with new vaccines all the time, new drugs to take. The FDA may approve them, but, no-one knows what the long term effects will be. This movie was so frightening to me because it REALLY could happen!
I do have one major complaint about this movie. It wasn't long enough. Only an hour and half long. When it ended my husband and I both were disappointed. We both felt it should have been longer. Most of the time we are complaining that a movie is too long, that it just
drags on and on. I think this movie could have been easily made longer, to show more about the beginning. More about what led up to this.
I read somewhere that there is going to be a sequel. I don't really think it could possibly be as good as this. But, maybe they could make a PREquel, now that would be interesting.....
