Hypothyroidisam Hypothyroidisam —

I use to be the kind of person who could eat anything they wanted to and wouldn't gain an inch.I was a 1 and a 3 for the earlier part of my life.I got married and had the 4 kids.As soon as  the baby was born I was already back close to a 3.I was a 5 so I usually left the hospital looking like I had never had a baby at all.All of this changed back in 1996.I got pregnant with my 4th child and I had her but I looked swollen and it wasn't going down.I went home and immediately I started walking because most Moms know walking is the quickest way to get your body back after the birth of your child.I was walking 5  and sometimes even more miles a day for well over 3 months and I didnt lose but 5 pounds.I was like man what is going on here! I m doing  everything right and nothing. Then I started to notice my hair thinning out and I was so tired all the time.I chalked it up to exercise and lack of sleep. Then I started getting nervous and depressed and at times I felt like I was going out of my mind.No matter what I done or how much cover I slept under I was ice cold.My feet felt like someone dead. They never would heat up.Then one day I noticed my heart felt like it was skipping beats really bad so I went to the doctor. My doctor ordered up some good old fashioned blood work to see if I was anemic and everything else.I waite a couple days and then the doctor called and told me the good news was I wasn't losing my mind after all I had hypothyroidisam. An underactive thyroid gland. It is the little butterfly bow tie shape thing on the front of your neck. The goes across your windpipe. There was medication for this that would straiten it out.It was Synthroid. So I got my script and started taking it immediately.I had to go back in for a new blood work up in 3 months. So by this time I had out on 60 pounds already and had endless acid reflux.I ws miserable. My once 3 body frame was now an 18 body frame on a size 5 ft 4 body so it was a tough one to deal with but anyways I started taking the medication and at first I really didn't notice anything but after a couple weeks had a little bit of energy.I continued and I lost 5 pounds here,2 pounds there but nothing that made that much different to me.I went back when my three months was up for my blood work up and low and behold my thyroid was still realy messed up and at 23 had now added a new complication ot the equasion. Now I had high cholesterol.Apparantly if your thyroid is bad and your thyroid pretty much controls everything it caused my liver to just throw cholesterol all through my blood stream non-stop and at high rates. Thus thyrois thing does this.My heart was beatin slowly and not to good.I was still cold but not as crazy I guess that was a plus.My doctor explain to me that the thyroid can and will do this and that we had to get this thing regulated right away because my cholesterol level was 1100 and I was a vegan. So now I went on Crestor. My doctor says it is for life. Now they bumpe my synthroid up form 100 to 175.I wen t home another 3 months and took this stuff again. My hair did start to thicken up a little bit and I did beign to feel  better but then ym gallbladder abscessd and a gal stone had apparently went through my liver so I had to have emeergency surjery.I nearly died and when I awoke the sergeon told me the cholesterol elevation caused by the thyroid caused all of this but luckily with some stomach flush after the surjery to combat off all the infection floating in my abdomen I was gonna be ok and my live would rpair itself.Month 6 I went  back in for a thyroid check it was fine.I have continue on synthroid now for a very long time.I never have been able to be the smaller size that I use be and I recently have lost 60 pounds. No one tells you how dangerous Hypothyroidisam can be.It can cause you to have heart failure, mimic a mental illness and it can cause you to miscarry and all kinds of stuff.Once you have it ,it id there for life and the only way they can treat it is through medication. There are two types.Hyperthyroidisam which makes your eyes buldge and you cannot get any weight. That means you thyroid is over active or it can be like mine hypo and mean under active. Some people go back to themselevs afterwards but my body never has I just figured it is alright to be the new me and I have to learn to be helathy and happy and not to worry about all the trivial things in life.I watch what I eat still.I do eat meat now because well the vegetarian thng was just not me and I talk to other people that have wen through the same thing and I had an uncle who had his gland removed and refuse the medication and for him it ended up being tragic because his hear failed and he eventually died.I just wanted to knwo if anyone else out there had a thyroid story. If you would be willing to share how your life changed and what all you have been through dealing with this?
