Hyde Manufacturing MaxxGrip Pro 8 In 1 Tool —

Over the years this DIYer has collected a widely assorted collection of wall scrapers, putty and compound knives.  Some pretty simple ones were almost disposable yet durable 3" plastic scraper/knives and some were specialty scrapers that for their purpose are virtually idiot-proof.

But far and away, the most versatile tool in the bunch has been my  Hyde Manufacturing MaxxGrip Pro 8 In 1 Tool.  It is so good at so many things, I find that at its sub-$10 price makes it irresistible.

Hyde Manufacturing MaxxGrip Pro 8 In 1 Tool

An 8-in-1 tool has a lot to live up to, particularly when the manufacturer isn't stretching at all to make this claim.  Whether painting, spackling, stripping wallpaper this versatile tool is a champ.

What does it do?

This electrocoated steel 3" blade provides you with a sharp scraping blade, putty remover, compound spreader and paint roller paint remover.  The sharp point (see product photo) is ideal for opening cracks for proper patching.  It also has a die-cast nail setting end for recessing nails into drywall in addition to a nail puller located in the blade.  Each of these functions are predictable in any home improvement project.

After several years of using MaxxGrip Pro 8 In 1 Tool I can say that it doesn't compromise in any of its functions.  It's the one tool I always make sure to have in my back pocket while working.  I am however very careful when I sit down.  Although I have several tools that will do whatever I call upon the MaxxGrip Pro 8 In 1 Tool to do, none does them all.  There's a lovely economy about such a versatile tool.  And, the soft grip handle makes it comfortable to use.

Slight Reservation

Keep in mind that this is a very sharp rigid blade.  I find that it works best when it's worked gently.  Novices may need a little practice to reliably use it without gouging the surface of the drywall.  But that's pretty much about it.  Used with care this tool is invaluable.

Maintenance

There's not much to tell here.  Clean it after every use (running water and perhaps a scrubbie) and as it ages spray it with a little WD-40 to keep it from developing any rust.

My Viewpoint

At its relatively modest cost this is an incredibly versatile tool for the novice to advanced DIYer.  I highly recommend it.
