Hunter Hunter PermaLife Tower Air Purifier 30756 —

Run, do not buy this unit! We have had Holmes purifiers in our house for over 10 years to help keep my husband's cat allergy at bay. I finally decided to upgrade to a new tower model for space and asthetic reasons and purchased the Hunter PermaLife Tower Air Purifier 30756 this past May. I thought the roughly 5 yr life of the filter would offset the cost of the unit and all was well and fine... we were very happy with the performance of the unit. It's a tad noisy on the medium fan speed level and you do have to vacuum the filter about every 10-14 days (we leave our windows open most of the year so other climates and with or without our 2 cats may differ.) Last week, we cleared the living room of furniture to have our year old pale grey carpeting cleaned and I was shocked to see a brownish ring where the air purifier had been. I do not move all the furniture and had only moved the air purifier less than 6 times since May while vacuuming my carpet at least twice a week. I work weird hours and vacuum very late at night so didn't notice the damage to the carpet due to the lack of lighting. I read the entire manual and no where does it mention the vent near the bottom of the unit that I found after discovering this problem. My new carpeting looks awful in a very obvious area of the living room. Spot treating and machine cleaning did lighten the stain by about half but you can still see an apporx. 8 inch ring. They also cover themselves in their warranty that they are not responsible for damages caused directly or indirectly by the product for more than the actual product price. So much for $6000 of special order extra wide carpeting that isn't even paid off yet. I am furious that Hunter put out such a poorly designed product and absolutely do NOT recommend the Hunter PermaLife Tower Air Purifier 30756.
