I have been a Hughesnet customer for 3 1/2 years. I continue using their service because there is no other option where I live. I had dial up with I first moved into our home, but when I started taking classes online, I had to have something that moved faster. Little did I know (and it wasn't explained to me) that I would not be able to download the materials needed for class without hitting the FAP (Fair Access Policy). I also am unable to download computer and virus protection updates, because the daily limit is only 250MB and by the time I do school work and download updates, I've exceeded the amount allowed and my internet is slowed to the point you can't use it (it's pretty much off). For $60 a month, it is a complete ripoff that you can't even complete "normal" activities online. Once you hit the FAP, your internet is not usuable for about 24 hours (sometimes longer). I can't count the number of times I have to reboot the modem because it randomly stops working. I also can't count the number of times the internet can't be used because of a slight overcast. Forget using it when it's raining or any kind of storm is coming through.
I am waiting patiently for ANY other provider to come out in our direction. As soon as I have another option, I am going to take it and not look back. As others have mentioned, there customer service is a complete joke. I never get anyone I understand and they usually can't understand what your problem is, so it ends up being a complete waste of time and you still have the original problem you started with. I would never recommend Hughesnet to anyone...
