Hotel was older and worn. Late night actvitity was a bit discomforting. The beds were uncomfortable and the bathroom aged. The tap water was terrible to the taste, and best avoided! The bath water was somewhat discolored, probably from rusty pipes. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was also clean. The two problems I found in my room: a wall lamp with the switch inside the lamp base unreachable it had been pushed through the hole in the lamp base; the lamp was on so I had to unscrew the lightbulb to put it off. The couch next to my bed had the seat cover broken in several areas showing the sponge filler material. Both problems were reported to the front desk and they diligently put the request in a clipboard to maintenance. The Howard Johnson of Athens, GA was a great value for our situation. We were only passing through town toward a further destination. Howard Johnson is centrally located in the town, easily accessing restaurants, shopping, and the University. Its central location made it easy for us to continue our trip the next day by connecting us to main highways. The room was clean, comfortable and provide more ammenities than I had expected.
