I'm not much one for sitcoms, but How I Met Your Mother has a rare spot in my weekly rotation. While the overarching narrative structure (each episode is presented as a story the main character Ted tells his circa-2030 children about the path his life took to lead him up to meeting their mother) is kind of cheesy, the writing is fresh and timely, avoiding most the gimmicks of other comedies. The show is witty, incorporating emerging slang and creating some of its own. The ensemble cast has great chemistry, but Neil Patrick Harris is the real standout here, his womanizing Barney a far cry from his days as a teen doctor and far closer to the NPH of Harold & Kumar movies.
