House, Season One, is great watching for a long weekend or a short convalesence. It has been on Fox television for two seasons. If you haven't been a fan, the dvd will convert you and prepare you for season 3 in the Fall.
House is a great diagostician and a lousy human being. Every episode follows the same format: some patient has some unknown disease that will likely kill him or her. House and his team of doctors race the clock to figure out the disease and cure the patient.
House is uniformly mean to his subordinates and to his boss, the hospital administrator. Even his best friend, a cancer doctor, gets more insults than compliments. I find his brand of sarcasm laugh out loud funny. Most of the episodes have upbeat endings which reinforces what we all hope: a trip to the hospital will effect a cure. There are just enough downbeat endings to maintain reality and add suspense.
The medicine is well researched and riveting, as well.
