Hotwire used to be a great site for booking hotels. Back in 2004, If you researched your area well you could make some really great bookings - eg. Embassy Suites Manhattan for $135 in August or the Paramount at Time Square for $109 over Easter weekend. You had to realize that the sale was final and that some of the "Star" ratings varied from one travel site to another, but you could get some excellent hotels at the absolute lowest rates around. This can be a great alternative in the right situation. For example I wouldn't use hotwire for a honeymoon since you have no control over where you get and it is non refundable so that is a case where it is worth it to spent a little extra to have control of where you end up. If you are looking for a quick get away or have a busy trip and are a flexible, easygoing person this can be a great deal. I recently rented a car for San Antonio from Hotwire.com. I travel to Texas approximately once a month and have always paid between $19 to $25 a day. After researching every different car rental agency's website I found a car for $21.95 a day. I decided to try Hotwire.com and couldn't believe it when I found a bargain deal for $13.95. If you like adventure AND mystery, and love a bargain - try Hotwire. The price savings are genuine and collecting on the prepaid voucher is problem free. I love this site for fun hotel travel. You don't know what hotel you are getting until you book but you can pick the area and star rating. And the prices can't be beat. Plus, it is a neat surprise to see what hotel you are getting. I have used this site many times in many different cities and have never been dissapointed. I used hotwire a lot. I found that the ratings are pretty much accurate. I got great deals many times. Just need to watch out for added cost like parking or resort fees which aren't disclosed by the hotels until you get there. I had an insident with HOTWIRE and oh boy i was dealing with the wrong compnay they give you the run around it their mistake and they never like resolve or even help you resolve the issue. You call them an i talk to manager and it is a NO! NO! and the manager is worse than the First person.
