Great deal if you have the flexibility

Pros

    cheap rates, easy to use, great if you can be flexible, 4 star for less

    upfront pay (understandable!)

I used hotwire a lot.  I found that the ratings are pretty much accurate.  I got great deals many times.  Just need to watch out for added cost like parking or resort fees which aren't disclosed by the hotels until you get there.  
We have a trip coming up and I will check hotwire first once I get my travel dates pinned down.
