I booked this hotel online, sight-unseen. It was just a weekend getaway, and I was more concerned about price and location, than about service. At the sametime, I knew I didn't want to stay at a flea-bag hotel. I did some web surfing and the De Anzakept coming up in the list of luxury hotels. One thing, though, the cost was significantly less than any of the other luxury hotels I found listed on the Internet.I figured I'd give it a go, and I'm so glad I did. The place is really gorgeous - an Art Deco palace with a Morroccan theme. Really rich and luxurious looking. The location is ideal for anyone travelling without a car - restaurants, museums and businesses are all within easy walking distance. In addition, the staff was great about giving me directions re catching public transport to get to an attraction on the other side of the city. The rooms are well-appointed, with comfortable beds, nice linens, and lots of strage space for luggage. Also, the rooms are big! This is always nice, as I can't stand feeling crowded into a tiny hotel room. The De Anza has a beautiful bar, where there's live jazz at night. No cover charge!
Themost unique thing about this place is the free snack bar that's open all night. I've travelled allover the world and never been to a hotel where they give you a key to a pantry and invite you to help yourself to juice, coffee, cookies and sandwiches during the night. All free of charge. This may sound like no big deal, but it came in handy when we got the munchies at 2am and got to thinking that a cookie or two sounded like a good idea.
If you stay at the De Anza (as I definitely will again) make sure and spring for breakfast. It's not included in the cost of accommodation, but it's reasonably priced and really good. What's more, it's served in a gorgeous room that served as a ballroom inthe 1940s.
