The 5th Avenue Suites was a good hotel but the first night was a little rough. I called the hotel The morning of my arrival and talked with a gentleman that said that he would block out my room since I was arriving late that evening (8 p.m.) and it was St. Patricks Day. He told me that he was going to block out a room for me on the 9th floor. When I arrived, I was put on the second floor with a smaller room than what I was assured I would get that morning. When I questioned the room, I was told I would have to take the available room for the night and that they would be happy to move... read full review »

I travelled to Portland on a business trip and stayed at this hotel. Checking in after midnight, I was met by courteous employees in the parking gargage and at the front desk. The only negative thing is that the only parking option appeared to be valet at $27 per day. When I was there, 5th Ave was torn apart to put in trolley tracks but this was a small inconvenience. We just walked around the block to go around the construction. We enjoyed our spacious suite and the free booze during the happy hour. A young boy near us had a lot of fun with the art supplies that were provided.

Recreational Attactions:...

THE fIFTH aVENUE sUITES was a great place to stay and very centrally located. It was really close to all the shopping in downtown Portland and the max train system was close by to take you to the Lloyd Center shopping complex. I liked having the bedroom with the french doors that you could close to separate the bedroom from the living area. There was plenty of space to move around in.

Shopping: Short Walk, The Red Star restaurant is connected to the hotel.Macys is across the street and many more places of business are around the hotel..Even Starbucks is on the corner for a good morning wake me...

We brought our canine companions and the staff was very accomodating. They even provided two nice over-stuffed dog beds, a stainless steel water bowl, two bottles of water, a placemat and two large gourmet dog treats. The room was large with a sleeping area separated from the lounge/desk area by french doors. They offer a complimentary wine hour each day in the lobby and complimentary coffee and tea in the morning. A New York Times is delivered to your door everyday.

Time Savers: Short Walk, All the great tax free downtown Portland shopping is just outside the front door.

The Hotel Monaco is very well situated in the downtown section. Attentive staff, large bathroom, very comfortable room. We were on the second floor but the room was amazing quiet, as we couldn't hear the street noise or noise from surrounding rooms. The evening wine reception was well attended and lots of fun. Will definitely go again.

Shopping: Short Walk, Most of the major downtown department stores are within several blocks. Rejuvenation store is just across the Morrison Bridge, which is just down the street from the hotel.

Me an my wife spent a weekend at the Hotel Monaco Portland-A Kimpton Hotel. The people at check in were very nice and helped out a lot. The room was very clean the internet reception was great even on the 9th floor. We spent a lot of time away from from the room but for the time we spent there we were very happy. The local area had a lot to offer with in walking distance.

Nightlife: Short Walk, There is a street fair every weekend we walk to this event and all the other places at night that we wanted to visit.

We were treated well at the Hotel Monaco Portland. The staff knew that we were Kimpton Hotel group members before we arrive(I had planned to tell them when we arrived) and were upgraded. The staff was very friendly, the lobby was a nice stop for the social hour. I have stayed at three Kimpton Hotels and liked each one.

Shopping: Short Walk, The hotel was nextr to the light rail for easy airport access and in the middle of the shopping district.

The Hotel Monaco was very comfortable and clean. The location was very good -- close to shopping and local night life. Only concern was that the valet closed the entrance gate at night, so if you left after it closed, re-entrance was a bit of a task...although the staff was very friendly and helpful in offering assistance.

Shopping: Short Walk, Pioneer square and other shops very nearby; local pubs/bars for nightlife.

For the price of any other four star hotel, this one had a living room attached to the bedroom. This made our stay feel more like having rented an apartment than a hotel room, and the increase in comfort was noticable. Also, the food at the hotel restaurant kept us coming back so often we barely ate anywhere else.

Shopping: Short Walk, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstroms both have large stores nearby.

The room was very nicely furnished and comfortable with a nice large bathroom (which I was sharing with my two teenage daughters and there was plenty of space). The view however was not very good, it was of an office type building. The staff was very helpful and the garage staff was very nice and friendly.

Shopping: Long Walk, Go to Mothers for breakfast. Yummy.

Kimpton just does it right. The Monaco is anothe example of their high standards of friendly staff, great rooms, and perfect location. Robes, plasma TV, comfortable bed, I can't ask for more. I'll definitely stay there again when I go back to Portland.

Shopping: Short Walk, Don't forget to go down for free happy hour drinks in the lounge area.

I was in town for business and the staff at the front desk went out of their way to look up information that I needed on the internet since I didn't bring my computer. They were incredibly friendly and helpful.

Shopping: Short Walk, great shopping close by--a fun way to spend your extra time

Hotel Monaco was a comfortable, over-the-top in friendliness place to stay. New York Times on at my door, wine tastings in the evening and fresh coffee in the morning. I highly recommend it.

Dining: Short Walk, Several restaurants are a short walk away.
