Most HelpfulAre you a movie lover who's bored with the usual plots?
Hot Fuzz is the weirdest, wildest ride in years, directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead). If you haven't seen Shaun of the Dead (and I hadn't, just went in stone cold to see this film), no matter. You will be laughing so hard, all the film's...
Most HelpfulMy husband and I went to go see this movie this past weekend. I didnt really know much about it, so I went in with low expectations. The minute the movie started, I thought, "oh, no... British humor... am I going to get it?" The quick answer is "yes".
Hot Fuzz definitely made me laugh. Stupid laughing, but...
review »In 2004, they brought you the Zombie horror spoof Shaun of the Dead, a huge hit in their native Britain, and a film that developed quite the cult following here in America.
Now, director Edgar Wright, along with friends and co-writers Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, take on the big budget Hollywood blockbuster in Hot Fuzz. Much like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz was gigantic in England, and is generating good word of mouth here in the States as well.
Nicholas Angel (Pegg) is London's top cop. His arrest rate is 400% greater than anyone else, so jealousy steers the London hierarchy into moving him to...
review »If you're into British comedy, this is the movie for you. I wasn't a big fan of Shawn of the Dead, because it was just death death death without a lot of plot. But this one was awesome. I loved the quirky little things, like the twin brothers who are at the reception desk at the police station, the mumbly old guys, everything. I will agree with some people that it does start out a little slow, but it's all building up to the incredible ending. The action at the end is over the top rediculously funny. Like in the supermarket battle between the cops and the deli boys, the spaghetti sauce gets hit...
review »Hot Fuzz came from the same guys that made Shawn of the Dead and it was by far, a better movie. Although it was a bit hard to get into at first, it was worth waiting and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It contained a great combination of humor, action and suspense. You do have to be familiar with British humor to understand some of the jokes though. The cast was great also. They played off each other well, unlike in "Shawn of the Dead", where everyone save the two main characters related to each other as if they had just met that day. Anyway, the movie Hot Fuzz reiterated...
review »I generally try to adopt a more professional tone when writing reviews, but the mere mention of Hot Fuzz guarantees my instant transformation into a blithering fangirl.
Simon Pegg! He plays a no-nonsense cop! He's so good at what he does that his bosses transfer him to a quiet little English town because he keeps making them look bad with his relentless butt-kickery!
Nick Frost! He plays the bumbling small-town cop that Pegg's partnered with! He got his job through nepotism and he's a well-meaning doofus that gets into all kinds of hilarious scrapes!
The town has been voted "safest town in England"...
review »Like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz is a spot-on genre parody that will appeal most to people who enjoy the kinds of movies being spoofed. Every aspect of the film is an over-the-top version of the action genre, which itself is already marked by extremes. This means things can get outrageous and even silly, particularly in the fast-paced, kinetic closing sequence, but it also means that you'll be laughing hard down the stretch. Some people complain that the middle section is a little flat, and the observational humor in that act is more restrained than the rest of the film, but it's still packed with...
