Horror Movies, Old Movies, Best Horror Movies 1930 to 1934 Part 1 —

As a little girl, I can remember my Mom watching "Chiller Theater", a local Saturday night show which played the "old" horror flicks.  Mostly they were at that time, stuff like "Dracula" with Bela Lugosi and "Frankenstein" with Boris Karloff.  There were lots more but these two stick in my mind to this day.  When I got older, I was allowed to join Mom watching these great old films.  Thus began my lifelong love affair with all horror movies.  These movies are real artistic masterpieces eventhough the special effects were primitve by today's standards.  "Dracula" was the first of the vampire movies.  Bela Lugosi had portrayed the beleagured Count on stage and was the obvious choice for the film version.  The movie was dark and moody. In the day, as now, is wonderfully scary   "Frankenstein" is another wonderful film in the same era.  Bela Lugosi was slated to be the star but refused because of the lack of dialog.  The starring role of the "Monster" went to Boris Karloff instead.  Karloff did a wonderful job portraying the sad yet horrifying monster.  He later became the "king" of horror in the remainder of the 30's and beyond.  Both these movies are 2 of my faves and eventhough they were primitive by today's standards, they did energize your imagination.  If you haven't seen them, get them soon and curl up in a dark room with some popcorn and take a step back into time.
