In an effort to stop eating the nasty food my workplace provides, I decided I would brown bag my own lunch. At least then I would know what I am eating. These Hormel Compleats were on sale at the local WalMart so I picked up 3.
This review is for the Cheese Manicotti with meat sauce. The picture looks quite appetizing, and promises to be ready in 90 seconds.
Once you peel back the plastic that covers the food, it still looks appetizing. Then you taste it. The manicotti "noodles" are chewy, yet mushy with absolutely no taste. The little meatballs leave an aftertaste that is unpleasant (what kind of preservatives are in here that lets MEAT sit unrefrigerated?!). I'm not sure I would even call those little things meat. The sauce could use some salt and it might be edible.
My biggest complaint is the texture of the manicotti noodles. They are horrible. I could only choke down one before I threw the rest in the garbage.
I also question the health factor for these little dishes. 290 calories is not bad, but then you add in 9g of fat (4.5 of which are saturated), 25mg of cholesterol and 990mg of sodium? In one meal?
Guess I'll be sticking with PB&J
