I was excited to get a coupon and try this product as I had considered organic dairy products for a while. It was fine in terms of taste and quality overall, but I am not sure after research that it is worth the additional cost. Given our government has gone the way of "privatization", I am not sure how much regulation there actually is and if "organic" means a whole heck of a lot. The fact that they have "access" to pastures--well, that doesn't say much, does it? How much access? How much pasture vs. grain feed do they have? Since "organic" has become the newest buzz word, all of a sudden organic milk is popping up everywhere, which makes me a bit leery because big corporate farms are taking notice, which is immediately suspect. Horizons is owned by Dean Farms--how much more corporate can they be, really? I didn't know anything about organic milk and tried this brand first. Because of the cost in my area is about $4.00 for a half gallon, it is substantially more expensive than what I normally buy, and I wanted to know if it was worth the additional strain to my budget. After doing some research, I have mixed feelings about the "organic" label and what it means, and would like to see tighter regulations in place so I know when it says "organic" that there is a standard meaning in place. Right now, it seems that this product by Dean Farms is little more than a "cash cow." This product tastes fine but I am dubious as to what their long term commitment is to organic farming. I would rather buy from a local farmer with a small herd than from another corporate farm.
