Hoover U5194-900 Mach5 Multi-Chamber Cyclonic Vacuum Cleaner Bagless Vacuum Review Summary

The Hoover U5194-900 Mach 5 Multi-Chamber Vacuum gets mixed reviews from Viewpoints members with some loving it, and others less than enthusiastic about it. Let’s start with the positives. Our reviewers enjoyed the bagless feature, which comes without the need for a filter, is a definite plus. The suction power is sufficient to be used on bare floors, rugs and even shag carpeting. After that, problems started piling up, say our reviewers. Complaints about an automatic shut off occurring “every 15 minutes”, a canister that constantly has to be emptied, the high retail price and various internal malfunctions make this Hoover vacuum one that our reviewers “do NOT recommend”.

I have 4 kids and have gone through I couldn't tell you how many vacuums.  We live in the country so trying to keep dust and dirt out of the house is a never ending battle.  This vacuum cleaner has been the best one I have ever used.

All the other bagless vacuums come with filters that need replaced,...

This vacuum cleaner had one of the best ratings for the price. With two cats, one dog, and an old shag carpet, the amps and suction power seemed ideal for my family. However, we have discovered that it has an automatic shut-off mechanism when it overheats - which is every 15 minutes!!!!! AND it can't... read full review »

This vacuum, from the first week of ownership, has been a nightmare.  First, there was a little door that came with the vacuum.  It was on when we got it and there is nothing in the instructions mentioning it.  We had to remove it in order for the power to stay on.  I figured this was no big deal.  Then the belt would come off very easily.  Within the first 3 weeks, I had to take it apart and put the belt back on.  This is not easy on this particular vacuum.  The next thing that happen3ed was I pulled it out of the closet and it caught the side of the doo.  The handle broke and fell off. ... read full review »

I purchased the Hoover Mach 5 six months ago for a household of 7 with a dog.  My complaints are minor but enough to make me wish I had purchased something else.  I spent a little more than my last vacuum thinking I was buying convenience.  I love the retractable cord, but it is located at the very bottom of the cleaner making it tough to hold the cord out of the way when vacuuming.  There is a tiny clip on the handle to hold the cord, but the clip is so small the cord always comes loose, and I have to stop and pick it back up.  Annoying!  The molding around the base of the cleaner is blue...

Bought the Hoover Mach5 about a year and a half ago. Initially I was very happy with it, but after 6 months, started to notice problems. Now I want a new vacuum. The main problem -- dust and dirt build up in the bottom section where the roller is and drops crud onto the floor with each bump. So if you are using the hose and when putting the vacuum up, there are patches of crud that have to be cleaned. I took it apart twice and clean it out but it is not worth doing this as it just gets filled again very quickly. It is also losing suction now, which was one of its selling points -- great suction....

I received this vacuum as a gift 6 months ago, and was only happy with it for about a month. I love that it is bagless, yet it does not really keep dust in. The last month after vacuming, I smell dust etc.

Another huge con, canister has to be emptied all the time! I have to empty a few times, each time I vacuum...and I vacuum daily, so it really should not have to be emptied this often. We do own 2 dogs, and 1 cat so it is mostly hair. Hair gets stuck on the filter, while running and doesn't pick up as well.

I definitely would not recommend anyone get this vacuum. Spend more $ and get a better...

We bought this Mach 5 Vacuum about 1 year ago for $168.  We had a Dyson prior to it and 'it lost suction'.  The Dyson was heavy but the Mach 5 is heavier.  The Mach 5 is already lossing suction after less than a year.  Emptying the Vacuum is a nightmare.  The cylinder is heavy and cumbersome. The only possitive thing about this vacuum is the retractable power cord.  I bought a Bissell at the same time as the Mach 5 for about $100 and it is a much better vacuum.

I got this vacuum cleaner because I was sick of the bags.  You hear over and over that the cyclonic action is great.  Yeah sure if you are willing to clean out all those little holes on the funnel part that get clogged with fluff.  I was a little dissapointed.  The belt likes to randomly pop off too.  Taking out 5 screws to get it back on isn't fun either.

This machine looks more interesting that some others. I really like the fact that you don't have to change a bag all the time.  I believe it to be very powerful in sucking up the dirt. All tho, I feel that the price is much too high, there are many other types of vacume's on the market that work just as well a this one, they just don't carry the Hover mane on them.

Hoover vacuum cleaners are among the worst made products you can waste your money on.  They break down regularly, fail to pick up dirt, frustrating to clean, and require repeated large expenditures for filters and belts.  Terrible.  By a Dyson.  It works and requires no add-on expenses to keep it so.

This is the best vacuum sweeper we have purchased in the last 20 years. The carpet looks almost brand new after using it and it picks up everything. The price was also a huge factor but the main reason we purchased this sweeper was because it was recommended in the Consumer Reports.

Since I am not a very handy woman I was pleased with how easy it was for me to assemble.  Satisfied with the first time I used it, and how easy it was to empty. My husband liked it because it wasn't as noisy as the Eureka upright I use to have.

The vacuum does a good job cleaning up pet hair and the allergen filter helps a lot.  It is a pretty tough vacuum too, because I really abuse them with pet hair and messes the kids make.
