With three dogs and living in the country surrounded by dust, dirt, and mud it became obvious that having our own carpet cleaner would save us a bundle if it worked decently. After reading numerous reviews on amazon and other sites I settled on the Hoover SteamVac as the best compromise between Performance, ease of use, and price. Because our carpets are heavily textured I was a little concerned about the unit's ability to suction up the water/detergent solution if it didn't have a good seal all around the nozzle.
