We are a family that suffers from allergies.  We have two dogs and one cat, which does not help our allergy situation, but we are also a family of animal lovers so we aren't willing to give up our pets.  In addition to the allergens we have floating around our home from our pets, we also have issues with the age of our home....

The home we live in was built in the 1960's, and when I heard that the air quality inside your home can be worse than the air quality OUTSIDE the home, I called in some man that said he would vacuum out of duct work underneatht he house and clean it up.  Well, it turned out that underneat our house is in horrible shape.  We have dust and dirt blowing up from the crawlspace underneath, as well as the pet dander that constantly floats around the house.  NO WONDER WE HAVE ALLERGIES!  Since I could not afford to get all the duct work replaced (it would have cost $ 6,000) I decided instead to purchase a decent air purifier that may help with the air quality in our home.

I was able to purchase the Honeywell Oscillating Air Purifier for under $ 200.00.  It was difficult for me to part with $ 200.00, but I was concerned for the health of my family so I did.  Considering all the things that the Honeywell Oscillating Air Purifier claimed to do, I thought it was money well spent.

The product features of this air purifier include:

  • Lifetime permanent filter (just rinse clean - no replacement filter necessary)
  • Captures dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, tobacco smoke, and other allergens found in the home
  • Energy Star certified product
  • Oscillating feature that cleans air more thoroughly
  • Quiet operation

I was most impressed with the lifetime permanent filter, because if you've ever priced replacement filters you will know that they can be very expensive.  This unit lets you just pop out the filter and rinse off all the dirt and then place it back in the unit when dried.  It really is easy to do, although I constantly worry that the filter is not completely dry when I place it back inside the unit.

The Honeywell Oscillating Air Filter is nice and quiet when it runs.  You can hear it, but it a low humming sound and is actually quiet relaxing.  I actually like to listen to it when I am trying to fall asleep because I like the way it sounds.  The noise is very low, and it certainly would not interfere with the television, radio, or any converstation in the room.

The unit is actually very attractive, and has a sleek design.  It slides around really easily, so if you want to move it to another area of the room, it is not difficult to do.  Our entire family just automatically turns it on whenever we walk in the room, and I do think that it helps clean the air in the room that it is placed.

Is the Honeywell Oscillating Air Purifier a miracle worker?  No, it's not.  But, it does help.  We still suffer from allergies, but we are all in agreement that the air seems cleaner.  I can definitely tell a difference when we are in the room with the air purifer and when we are in another room of the house.  The unit seems to help the most with the cat dander, and we notice a lot of it in the filter when we clean the filter.  In fact, if we didn't have a cat, I don't think we would have to clean the filter as often as we do now.  But, we find that we need to clean this filter about once every week and a half for optimal performance.

This unit is an oscillating air purifier, which I would HIGHLY recommend over a traditional air purifier.  Instead of working in just one direction, you get a more even level of purification to all areas in the room.  My husband is a smoker, but he does NOT smoke inside the house.  Even still, I would recommend this air purifer for a home in which someone does smoke because I think it would drastically improve the air quality in your home.

Bottom Line - I highly recommend the Honeywell Oscillating Air Purifier.  For as effective as it is, the price is very reasonable.  No, it is not a miracle worker, and our family does still experience allergy symptoms, BUT I do believe it is the age of our home and the condition of the duct work under our home.  If you have a relatively new home, and are just trying to reduce normal levels of indoor polluction, I believe this unit would make a 100% difference in your home.  I have been extremely happy with the performance of this air purifier and am very happy that we purchased it.

If you are interested in purchasing this particular model, check at larger department stores such as Sears, or even home improvement stores like Lowes or Home Depot.  The Honeywell Oscillating Air Purifier is also available online at websites such as Buy.com or Amazon.com.  Shop around to find the best deal, and also look for online coupon codes for additional savings.

I have 2 air purifiers that I bought at Christmastime and reviewed. I loved them....since then I don't notice them working as well. :(

Great review! I just started using an oscillating fan when I moved into my private office. I have the item in draft form so will speak more about it later. Glad to see your smiling face ;+)
