Small but mighty
We have an older house with only one A/C vent in our long living room. This little fan alone kept cold air circulating throughout the room all summer long, keeping everyone cool! There are three speeds, and often, only letting the air flow through on medium or low speed was enough to keep the room cool. After a year, this fan is still quiet and efficient- you can hardly hear it on the lowest setting and while somewhat noisy at high speed, it is not distracting. The head is fully adjustable in 180 degrees, and while it does not oscillate, it isn't necessary. You don't need this fan blowing directly on you, by having it push cold air up into the room from floor level, it creates enough of a breeze to cool the entire room. The only downside is that it is not safe around little ones who would put their fingers into the fan- it has openings wide enough for adult fingers, never mind little kids! Update: Sadly, this fan simply died one day- we went to turn it on and nothing happened. There was no warning, no strange noises or smells, it just quit working. It worked great for ~1.5 years and then just stopped.
