Honda Insight Hybrid - 2010 —

Living in Houston and having to do LOTS of stop and start as well as highway driving has caused my family to consider a more fuel efficient vehicle.  As a result of my work and making nice with a local car dealership I was able to find out more about the 2010 Honda Hybrid than the average car shopper would know and spend a great deal more time learning about this amazing, brand new Hybrid car.  Is there any doubt that I was impressed?

I spent some time learning about the 2010 Honda Hybrid Insight here are some things you may already know or need to know:

  • I drove the EX a four door hatchback
  • 40 mpg in city and 43 highway
  • global warming scale 10/10 (how's that for no carbon emissions)
  • smog rating 7/10
  • est fuel costs for 15,500 miles at 1.90/gallon = $695.00
  • hybrid power is harnessed from the braking system/rotors and then stored in the batter
  • Eco-Assist system which can be turned on or off helps you not only drive more fuel efficiently but if you follow the "green" light you will also train yourself to drive your other cars more efficiently
  • system also lets you know important facts like your eco score for that trip, if your car needs maintained, and your miles driven
  • the car tells you when it is using battery power or gas power
  • ipod station
  • seats are made with soy based plant products
  • much of the interior is recycleable
  • rides well
  • nice use of space
  • surprising large trunk
  • number 2 on the Kelly Blue Book Top 10 Choices for Green Cars
  • base price approximately $21,000.00
What didn't I like about the Honda 2010 Hybrid?
  • the radio was over a little too far for my arms - too close to the passenger side
Ok, that's it. That's all I could find wrong with the car. That and figuring out how to pay for the 21K price.  This car is an excellent vehicle and though there are currently no safety ratings the built in childrens safety harness system as well as the double panelled doors and Honda's history with safety made me feel a little better.

If you are looking for a comfortable riding car, some way to "go greener" with your lifestyle, reduce your carbon footprint and save some money on insurance and gas the 2010 Honda Hybrid Insight definitely deserves a second, third and even fourth look - and a buy.

You can't go wrong with a Honda- of any kind. I simply adore them.

In response to GigiandAdonai's comment from Jun 12, 2009 at 8:51PM:

A local dealership was so very generous with their time and car! I actually did a full interview with them with a MUCH longer article published elsewhere but not really appropriate for Viewpoints. They answered all my questions and gave me plenty of time as a professional courtesy to make sure I could write a thorough and honest review. All the "technical" details can be easily found online I was hoping my points were more what you COULDN'T find out unless you spent some time with this car.

And I was wondering how you got your hands on this Hybrid. This is the cheapest I have heard of. My area is making preparation for some Chevy hybrid to be introduced next year and I believe they are advertising prices in the 35K range--whoa baby!!
